Thursday, August 13,2026
AsemconnectVietnam - Eximbank (Vietnam Export Import Commercial Bank - Code: EIB) has just announced its Q2/2026 financial report with pre-tax profit reaching VND341 billion, a decrease of 48.2% compared to the same period last year.
The reason is the bank's sharp increase in credit risk provisioning costs from VND201 billion to VND479 billion, equivalent to a 138.3% increase. After- tax profit reached VND250 billion, a decrease of 50.6%.
Eximbank's business segments declined in Q2, especially non-interest income. Specifically, net interest income in Q2/2026 reached VND1,396 billion, a decrease of 5% compared to the same period. Net profit from service activities decreased sharply by 82.8%, to VND33 billion. Net profit from foreign exchange trading reached VND151 billion, a decrease of 7.4%.
Conversely, net profit from other activities reached VND252 billion, an increase of 78.7%. Income from capital contributions and share purchases reached VND0.5 billion, slightly higher than the VND0.4 billion in the same period last year. Investment securities activities recorded a loss of VND11 billion, higher than the loss of VND6 billion in the same period.
Total operating income in the quarter reached VND1,822 billion, a decrease of 7.5% compared to the same period. Meanwhile, operating expenses decreased by 9.7% to VND1,002 billion, resulting in a net profit from business operations of VND820 billion, a decrease of 4.5%.
For the first six months of the year, Eximbank recorded pre-tax profit of VND678 billion, a decrease of 54.5% compared to the same period last year. After- tax profit reached VND520 billion, a decrease of 55.4%. In the first six months of the year, net interest income reached VND2,776 billion, a decrease of 1.7%. Net income from service activities decreased by 79.9%, to VND68 billion. Net income from foreign exchange trading reached VND140 billion, a decrease of 61.5%. Conversely, net income from other activities increased by 49.2%, to VND373 billion, mainly due to the Bank's efforts in debt resolution and recovery.
At the end of the first half of the year, total operating income reached VND3,349 billion, a decrease of 11.3% compared to the same period last year. Operating expenses decreased by 4.4%, to VND1,873 billion, bringing net profit from business operations to VND1,476 billion, a decrease of 18.8%.
Meanwhile, credit risk provision expenses increased by more than 143%, to VND798 billion. The need to increase provisions amidst declining net profit was the main reason why Eximbank's pre-tax and after-tax profits decreased by more than half compared to the same period.
As of June 30, 2026, Eximbank's total assets reached VND266,068 billion, a decrease of 2.6% compared to the end of 2025. Loans to customers reached VND188,030 billion, an increase of 2.1%, while customer deposits reached VND170,609 billion, a decrease of 3.8%. Loan loss provisions decreased by 20.6%, to VND1,837 billion.
Regarding asset quality, Eximbank's total non-performing loan balance (loans from groups 3 to 5) increased by 9.9%, from VND5,273 billion to VND5,794 billion, bringing the non-performing loan ratio from 2.86% to 3.08%. Simultaneously, the non-performing loan coverage ratio decreased from 43.8% to 31.7%.
On July 24th, Eximbank held an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders regarding personnel. Shareholders approved the dismissal of three members of the Board of Directors and elected five new members. The five newly elected members of the Board of Directors are: Mr. Nguyen Le Quoc Anh, Michael Richard Harte, Chua Teck Huat Bill, and Ms. Richa Goswami and Ms. Ooi Huey Tyng. Mr. Nguyen Le Quoc Anh was formerly the CEO of Techcombank.
The extraordinary general meeting of Eximbank also approved the election of Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, former General Secretary of the Vietnam Banking Association (VNBA), as a member of the Eximbank Supervisory Board for the eighth term (2025-2030). Following the restructuring, the Eximbank Board of Directors held its first meeting and elected Mr. Nguyen Le Quoc Anh as Chairman of the Board of Directors, replacing Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang.
