Vietnam’s exports and imports of animal feed and materials in first two months of 2020

The country’s imports of animal feed and materials also saw year – on – year growth in the period.
Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and materials in the first two months of 2020
In the first 2 months of 2020, Vietnam’s exports of animal feed and raw materials reached 90.01 million USD, up by 6.6 per cent over the same period of 2019.
According to the General Department of Customs, the export turnover of animal feed and raw materials in February of 2020 reached 53.07 million USD, a sharp increase of 44.5 per cent compared to January of 2020 and an increase of 53.2 per cent compared to February of 2019; Generally, in the first 2 months of 2020, the country’s export turnover of this commodity group reached 90.01 million USD, up by 6.6 per cent over the same period of 2019.
Leading export markets of animal feed and materials in the first two months
Cambodia ranked first in Vietnam's consumption of animal feed and materials, accounting for 18.2 per cent of the country's total export turnover of this commodity group, with 16.4 million USD, up by 7.3 per cent over the same period last year. In particular, in February of 2020, it increased by 19.5 per cent compared to January of 2020 and increased by 63.4 per cent compared to February of 2019.
The Chinese market was followed with 14.46 million USD, accounting for 16.1 per cent of the total, down by 11.6 per cent; Particularly in February of 2020, the exports of animal feed and raw materials to China increased sharply by 92.1 per cent compared to January of 2020 but decreased by 8.1 per cent compared to February of 2019.
Meanwhile, the exports to India in February of 2020 increased sharply by 137.1 per cent compared to January of 2020 and by 145.8 per cent compared to February of 2019, reaching 9.12 million USD; raising the total export turnover of this commodity group to India in the first 2 months of 2020 to 12.97 million USD, accounting for 14.4 per cent of the country's total export turnover of this commodity group, up by 113.5 per cent over the same period of 2019.
The exports of animal feed and materials to the US also increased strongly by 173.1 per cent over the same period of 2019, reaching 10.77 million USD, accounting for 12 per cent of the total turnover; In particular, in February of 2020, it increased by 14.6 per cent compared to January of 2020 and by 499.7 per cent compared to February of 2019, reaching 5.76 million USD.
In the first two months of this yearthe country’s exports to Japan decreased by 57.6 per cent, reaching 3.91 million USD; to Bangladesh decreased by 48.5 per cent, reaching 0.94 million USD; and to Thailand decreased by 43.6 per cent, reaching 2.33 million USD.
Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials fell in the first two months
Vietnam imported 271 million USD worth of animal feed and materials in February of this year, increased by 22.44 per cent over the previous month and by 12.13 per cent in value over the same month of last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In February, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached 135 million USD, increased by 84.67 per cent compared with the previous month and by 48.37 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials in the first two months of this year to 209 million USD, increased by 3.36 per cent year – on - year, and accounted for 42.4 per cent of the total market share.
It was followed by the U.S with over 29 million USD in February, up by 11.48 per cent month – on – month and down by 29.85 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first 2 months of this year to over 55 million USD, down by 56.79 per cent year – on – year, and accounted for 11.3 per cent of the total market share.
Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from China reached over 11 million USD in February, up by 9.58 per cent month – on – month and by 52.17 per cent year – on – year, brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from China in the first two months of this year to 21 million, down by 30.73 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 4.4 per cent of the total market share.
In the first two months of this year, Vietnam spent over 494 million USD on importing animal feed and materials, down by 20.7 per cent over the same period last year.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from the Philippines reached 4.2 million USD, increased sharply by 123.75 per cent; from the U.A.E reached 8 million USD, up by 91.97 per cent; from Mexico – 869,000 USD, up by 47.35 per cent; and from Chile – over 2.9 million USD, up by 34.64 per cent year - on – year.
Vietnam also imported wheat, corn, soybean; oil and grease as materials for producing animal feed and materials in the first 2 months of this year:
Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 331,000 tons worth of 82 million USD in February and over 708,000 tons worth of over 177 million USD in the first two months of this year, increased by 113.53 per cent in quantity and by 89.41 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2019.
The leading wheat import markets in February of this year were Australia with the market share of 35 per cent; Brazil – 16 per cent; Russia – 10 per cent; Canada – 7 per over 11 times in quantity and over 13 times in value year – on - year, while the imports from Brazil decreased by over 2 times in quantity and in value. Meanwhile, the imports from Brazil increased by over 2 times in quantity and in value compared with the same period last year; but the imports from Russia decreased sharply by 50.77 per cent in quantity and 56.98 per cent in value over the same period last year.
Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 129,000 tons worth of over 53 million USD in February of this year, and 219,000 tons worth of 90 million USD in the first two months of this year, decreased by 29.06 per cent in quantity and by 25.4 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2019.
Corn: The imports of corn reached over 354,000 tons worth of 82 million USD in February and over 1.1 million tons worth of over 229 million USD in the first two months of this year, decreased by 31.41 per cent in quantity and 32.54 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2019.
Argentina and Brazil were the leading corn import markets of Vietnam in the first 2 months of this year with 52 per cent and 42.7 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
