Exports of cashew nuts increased in volume but decreased in value
Wednesday, November 13,2019AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 9 months of 2019, Vietnam’s cashew exports reached 328,486 tons, valued at 2.4 billion USD, up by 20.9 per cent in volume, but down by 5.5 per cent in value over the same period of 2018.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s cashew nut exports in September of 2019 reached 42,512 tons, worth of 292.37 million USD, down by 7.7 per cent in volume and 6.5 per cent in value compared to with August of 2019, but up by 42.8 per cent in volume and up by 14 per cent in value compared to September of 2018.
Generally in the first 9 months of 2019, Vietnam’s cashew exports reached 328,486 tons, valued at 2.4 billion USD, up by 20.9 per cent in volume, but down by 5.5 per cent in value compared to the first 9 months of 2018.
The average export price of cashew nuts in September of 2019 reached 6,887.3 USD per ton, up by 1.4 per cent compared to August of 2019, but down by 20 per cent compared to September of 2018. On average, in the first 9 months of 2019, the average export price of cashew nuts reached 7,296.8 USD per ton, down by 21.8 per cent compared to the first 9 months of 2018.
Cashew exports in the first half of October reached 18,600 tons, worth of 128.2 million USD, down by nearly 20 per cent in volume and 19.3 per cent in value compared to the second half of September. As compared to the first half of October of 201, the figure increased by 28.6 per cent in volume and up by 3.9 per cent in value.
As from the beginning of the year to the middle of October 2019, Vietnam’s cashew nut exports reached 346,900 tons, worth of more than 2.5 billion USD, up by 21.4 per cent in volume, but down by 5 per cent in value over the same period in 2018. In the first half of October, the average price of cashew exports reached 6,896 USD per ton, up by nearly 1 per ccent compared to the second half of September, but down by 19.2 per cent compared to the first half of October of 2018. Accumulated from the beginning of this year to the middle of October, the average export price of cashews stood at 7,276 USD per ton, down by 21.7 per cent compared to the same period of 2018.
Vietnam's cashew nut exports to the US accounted for 33 per cent of the total cashew nut export volume and total cashew nut export turnover of the country, with 109,077 tons, equivalent to 776.75 million USD, an increase of 4.9 per cent in volume but down by 20.2 per cent in turnover over the same period of 2018.
The second was the EU market, accounted for 23 per cent of the total volume and turnover, reaching 74,495 tons, worth of 549.29 million USD, up by 13.3 per cent in volume but down by 12.3 per cent in turnover.
The next was the Chinese market, accounted for 16 per cent of the total volume and turnover, reaching 49,886 tons, worth of 384.66 million USD, up by 65.2 per cent in volume and 40 per cent in turnover.
In the first 9 months of this year, Vietnam’s cashew exports increased sharply in the following markets: to Pakistan increased the most by 271.4 per cent in volume and 206.9 per cent in turnover (reaching 104 tons, equivalent to 0.79 million USD); to Ukraine - increased by 74 per cent in volume and 43.5 per cent in turnover (reaching 823 tons, equivalent to 6.13 million USD); to Hong Kong increased by 40.4 per cent in volume and 23.7 per cent in turnover (reaching 1,792 tons, equivalent to 17.8 million USD). However, the exports to India decreased sharply by 36.9 per cent in volume and 52.2 per cent in turnover, reaching 2,332 tons, equivalent to 13.1 million USD.
In the world market, in September of 2019, the world cashew market was quite active due to increased demand in Europe and the US. The importers need a large amount of raw cashew nuts to produce in order to serve the demand on the coming Thanksgiving and Christmas. The Japanese market has a high demand for quality, organic cashews.
At Delhi port of India, the price of exported cashew nuts fluctuated, but the main trend was increasing. With the optimistic signal, global cashew prices are expected to recover in the fourth quarter of 2019 thanks to increased demand.
