Vietnam to speed up exports to U.S
Friday, October 4,2019AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of goods to the US market in the first 8 months of 2019 reached 39.26 billion USD, up by 27.4 per cent over the same period of 2018.
According to the figures from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's merchandise exports to the U.S in August 2019 continued to grow well, up by 14.5 per cent compared to July of 2019 and up by 28.6 per cent compared to August of 2018 to 6.29 billion USD. The figure brought the country’s total this market in the first 8 months of 2019 to 39.26 billion USD, up by 27.4 per cent over the same period of 2018.
The group of textiles and garments ranked first in turnover, with 9.95 billion USD, accounting for 25.3 per cent of Vietnam's total exports to the U.S, up by 9.2 per cent over the same period last year; mobile phones and accessories ranked second in turnover with 6.16 billion USD, accounting for 15.7 per cent of total turnover, up by 74.3 per cent; and then footwear with 4.35 billion USD, up by 14.2 per cent, accounting for 11 per cent; computers, electronic products and components 3.45 billion USD, up by 88.4 per cent, accounting for 8.8 per cent; wood and wooden products - reached 3.18 billion USD, up by 33 per cent, accounting for 8.1 per cent; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts - 2.95 billion USD, up by 45.9 per cent, accounting for 7.5 per cent.
In the first 8 months of this year, the country’s exports of most goods to the U.S increased in turnover over the same period in 2018; in which electric wire and cable group saw the strongest increase of 245.9 per cent, reaching 188.47 million USD; the group of rattan, bamboo, rush and carpet products also increased sharply by 97 per cent to reach 86.35 million USD; paper and paper products increased by 79.9 per cent, reaching 138.82 million USD; textile, garment, leather and footwear materials increased by 62.5 per cent to 43.06 million USD.
However, iron and steel exports to the U.S plunged the most by 52 per cent, reaching 257.46 million USD; coffee also dropped by 28.9 per cent to 176.03 million USD; cashew nuts - decreased by 22.4 per cent to 685.26 million USD.
The experts said that Vietnam's exports to the US market are still wide open, requiring reasonable solutions to maintain sustainable exports to this market.
