Exports of fruits and vegetables decreased in first two months
Thursday, March 14,2019AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s export turnover of fruits and vegetables in the first 2 months of 2019 reached USD 555 million, down by 14.4 per cent compared to the same period in 2018.
Vegetables and fruits are the main export agricultural products of Vietnam, accounting for 1.6 per cent of the total export turnover of the whole country, reaching approximately 354.94 million USD in the first month of 2019, increased by 21.8 per cent compared to December of 2018 but down by 7.5 per cent compared to January 2018.
The country’s export turnover of fruits and vegetables in February of 2019 reached 200 million USD, a sharp decrease of 43.7 per cent compared to January 2019 and also decreased by 24.9 per cent compared to February 2018. So the total export turnover from fruits and vegetables in the first 2 months of the year reached 555 million USD, down by 14.4 per cent compared to the same period of 2018.
China was the main market for vegetables and fruits of Vietnam with 257.57 million USD in the first month of the year, accounting for over 72.6 per cent of the total export turnover of vegetables and fruits of the whole country, up by 26 per cent compared with December of 2018 but decreased by 13 per cent compared to January 2018.
The other markets with a turnover of over 10 million USD included EU with 13.75 million USD, accounting for 3.9 per cent, up by 80 per cent over the same period last year; Southeast Asia market - 13.53 million USD, accounting for 3.8 per cent, down by 16.7 per cent; US - 12.54 million, up by 10.8 per cent; South Korea - 11.64 million USD, up by 67.7 per cnet; Japan - 10.21 million USD, down by 4 per cent.
In general, in January 2019, the country’s exports of fruits and vegetables to most markets increased in turnover compared to January 2018. In particular, the exports to Italian market surpassed 9.2 times, although the turnover reached only 1.77 million USD. Besides, exports also increased strongly in some markets such as: Indonesia increased by 284.7 per cent, reached 0.09 million USD; Ukraine increased by 207.5 per cent, reaching 0.15 million USD; Germany increased by 114.9 per cent to 1.81 million.
However, exports to Russia, Malaysia and Thailand markets plunged by 47.4 per cent, 34.3 per cent and 27.8 per cent, respectively.
