Vietnam’s seafood imports and exports in 9 months
Friday, October 26,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports and imports of seafood both saw growth in the first nine months of this year, according to the the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In the period, the country exported US$6.36 billion and imported $1.26 billion worth of seafood.
Seafood exports increased over 6 per cent in the first nine months
Vietnam earned nearly US$6.36 billion from seafood exports in the first nine months of this year, increased by 6.2 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
The U.S was the country’s leading seafood export market in the period with the export turnover of $1.14 billion, up by 9.3 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 17.9 per cent of the total.
The EU ranked second with $1.09 billion, up by 7.7 per cent; and then Japan - $993.76 million, up by 5 per cent; China - $720.19 million, down by 8.1 per cent; and South Korea - $611.82 million, up by 13.1 per cent.
The country’s exports of seafood to the Southeast Asian countries reached $491 million, up by 13.1 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 7.7 per cent of the total.
In the first nine months of this year, the country’s exports of seafood to Cambodia increased sharply by 81.9 per cent to $19.21 million; to the U.A.E – up by 78.8 per cent to $62.16 million; to India – up by 48.5 per cent to $21.53 million; to Egypt – up by 42.9 per cent to $33.87 million; and to Brunei – up by 39.3 per cent to $1.18 million.
However, the country’s exports of seafood to Saudi Arabia decreased by 71 per cent to $14.1 million; to Czech – down by 43.9 per cent to $4.3 million; to Denmark – down by 33.9 per cent to $33.66 million; and to Indonesia – down by 33.6 per cent to $3.06 million.
The country’s exports of shrimp in the first nine months of this year totaled over $2.7 billion, down by 3 per cent year – on – year. According to VASEP, the country’s total shrimp exports are expected to reach nearly $3.8 billion in 2018.
Meanwhile, the exports of Tra fish reached $1.6 billion in the first nine months, up by 24 per cent year – on – year.
The country’s total seafood exports may reach $2.5 billion in the fourth quarter of this year and $8.9 - 9 billion this year, up by 7 per cent compared with 2017, according to VASEP.

Vietnam’s imports of seafood totaled US$ 1.26 billion in the first nine months of this year, increased by 21.2 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
India was the country’s leading seafood import market in the period with the import value of $271.01 million, down by 5.5 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 21.5 per cent of the total. Meanwhile, the imports from Norway reached $130.29 million, up by 61.9 per cent; from China - $86.07 million, up by 0.8 per cent; from Taiwan (CN) reached $81.95 million, up by 9.8 per cent; from Japan - $81.14 million, up by 42.2 per cent.
In the first nine months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of seafood from the Southeast Asian countries increased sharply by 108 per cent to $5.76 million; from the Philippines – up by 103.5 per cent to $7.64 million; from Indonesia – up by 95.7 per cent to $67.21 million; from Canada – up by 67.4 per cent; from Norway – up by 61.9 per cent; from South Korea – up by 57.2 per cent; and from the U.S – up by 53.6 per cent year – on – year.
However, the imports of seafood from Myanmar decreased by 23.3 per cent to $2.31 million; from Denmark – down by 16.5 per cent to $13.25 million; from Poland – down by 16.4 per cent to $5.46 million.
