Farm, forestry,seafood: export turnover up
Friday, September 28,2018AsemconnectVietnam - The turnover from exports of farm, forestry and seafood products saw year – on – year increase in the first eight months of this year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
Exports of farm-forestry-fishery products totaled US$25.7 billion in 8 months
Vietnam’s exports of farm-forestry-fishery sector reached US$3.13 billion in August, raising the total value in the first eight months of this year to $25.7 billion, up 7.3 percent year-on-year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Of the figure, the exports major farm products were estimated at $13.3 billion, up by 2.5 per cent over the same period last year; the exports of seafood - $5.5 billion, up by 5.3 per cent; liverstock products - $360 million, up by 3.1 per cent; and forestry products - $5.9 billion, up by 13.3 per cent.
The country exported about 4.4 million tons of rice worth 2.2 million USD between January-August, up 6.8 per cent in volume and 22.1 percent in value from the same period last year. In August alone, 441,000 tons valued at $209 million was shipped abroad.
Fruit and vegetable exports were estimated at $346 million in Augurst and $ 2.7 billion in the first eight months of this year, up 14.1 per cent year – on - year.
In the first 7 months of this year, the country’s exports of fruits and vegetables to China accounted for 74 per cent of the total with the export turnover of $1.7 billion, up by 12.4 per cent over the same period last year. Meanwhile, the exports of fruits and vegetables to Thailand increased by 38.6 per cent; to the U.S – up by 19.3 per cent; to South Korea – up by 28.7 per cent and to Malaysia – up by 12.9 per cent year – on – year.
The exports of cashew nuts were estimated at 30,000 tons worth of $254 million in August and 238,000 tons worth of $2.2 billion in the first seven months of this year, up by 5.8 per cent in quantity and 0.6 per cent in value over the same period last year. In the first 7 months of this year, the U.S, the Netherlands and China were the three leading cashew import markets with the market shares of 38.6 per cent; 12.6 per cent and 10.3 per cent, respectively.
The country’s exports of coffee reached 143,000 tons worth of $260 million in August and 1.32 million tons worth of $2.5 billion in the first eight months of this year, up by 15.5 per cent in quantity but down by 2.5 per cent in value over the same period of 2017.
Meanwhile, the exports of pepper were estimated at 20,000 tons worth of $58 million in August and 173,000 tons worth of $576 million, up by 3.2 per cent in quanity but down by 36 per cent in value over the same period last year.
The exports of rubber were estimated at 163,000 tons worth of $207 million in August and 870,000 tons worth of $1.2 billion in the first eight months of this year, up by 8.2 per cent in quanitty but down by 11.8 per cent in value over the same period of 2017.
The exports of tea in the first eight months of this year were estimated at 81,000 tons worth of $ 133 million, down by 10.1 per cent in quantity and 7.4 per cent in value over the same period of 2017.
The exports of seafood were estimated at $739 million in August and $5.5 billion in the first eight months of this year, up by 5.3 per cent over the same period of 2017. The U.S, Japan, China and South Korea were the leading seafood export markets of Vietnam in the first seven months of 2018.
Major forestry products earned US$5.858 billion from exports in eight months
Vietnam earned US$5.858 billion from exporting forestry products over the recent eight months of 2018, equal to 65.12% of the year’s plan and a year – on - year increase of 13 per cent, according to the Vietnam Administration of Forestry, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The trade surplus gained from exporting forestry products was estimated to reach $4.392 billion, including $4.096 billion from wood and wooden products.
The forestry exports may account for 23 per cent of the total agricultural sector?s export value.
Vietnam Administration of Forestry forecasts that the exports of forestry products in the next months of 2018 continue to rise, especially at Viet Nam’ss traditional markets such as the U.S., China, the Republic of Korea, Japan and the EU.
Seafood exports reached US$ 5.6 billion in eight months
Vietnam’s seafood exports reached nearly US$5.6 billion in the first eight months of this year, increased by 7.3 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In August, the country earned $861.55 million from seafood exports, up by 12.6 per cent over the previous month and by 2.5 per cent over the same month of last year.
In the first eight months of this year, the U.S was the biggest seafood export market with the export turnover of $982.9 million, accounted for 17.6 per cent of the total and increased by over 7 per cent over the same period last year.
EU ranked second with $962.21 million, up by 12 per cent; and then Japan - $868.97 million, up by 4.7 per cent; China - $638.53 million, down by 4.6 per cent; South Korea - $538.9 million, up by 13.3 per cent; the South East Asia - $433.1 million, up by 14.3 per cent year – on – year.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of seafood to Cambodia increased sharply by 86.2 per cent to $16.86 million; to the U.A.E – up by 80 per cent to $56.88 million; to India – up by 57.4 per cent to $19.85 million; to Egypt – up by 49.9 per cent to $29.84 million; and to Portugal – up by 47.3 per cent to $42.9 million.
However, the exports of seafood to Saudi Arabia fell sharply by 67.4 per cent to $14.06 million; to Indonesia – down by 43.4 per cent to $2.46 million; to Czech – down by 36 per cent to $ 4.18 million; to Brazil – down by 30.7 per cent to $49.2 million; and to Denmark – down by 32.5 per cent to $29.81 million.
