Vietnam’s imports and exports of seafood in the first eight months of 2018

Both saw year – on – year growth.
Seafood exports increased 7.3 per cent year – on – year in eight months
Vietnam’s seafood exports reached nearly US$5.6 billion in the first eight months of this year, increased by 7.3 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In August, the country earned $861.55 million from seafood exports, up by 12.6 per cent over the previous month and by 2.5 per cent over the same month of last year.
In the first eight months of this year, the U.S was the biggest seafood export market with the export turnover of $982.9 million, accounted for 17.6 per cent of the total and increased by over 7 per cent over the same period last year.
EU ranked second with $962.21 million, up by 12 per cent; and then Japan - $868.97 million, up by 4.7 per cent; China - $638.53 million, down by 4.6 per cent; South Korea - $538.9 million, up by 13.3 per cent; the South East Asia - $433.1 million, up by 14.3 per cent year – on – year.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of seafood to Cambodia increased sharply by 86.2 per cent to $16.86 million; to the U.A.E – up by 80 per cent to $56.88 million; to India – up by 57.4 per cent to $19.85 million; to Egypt – up by 49.9 per cent to $29.84 million; and to Portugal – up by 47.3 per cent to $42.9 million.
However, the exports of seafood to Saudi Arabia fell sharply by 67.4 per cent to $14.06 million; to Indonesia – down by 43.4 per cent to $2.46 million; to Czech – down by 36 per cent to $ 4.18 million; to Brazil – down by 30.7 per cent to $49.2 million; and to Denmark – down by 32.5 per cent to $29.81 million.
Seafood imports increased over 24 per cent in eight months
Vietnam’s imports of seafood saw an increase of 24.2 per cent year – on – year to US$1.14 billion in the first eight months of this year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In August only, the seafood imports fell by 9.9 per cent over the previous month and by 11.3 per cent over the same month of 2017 to $132.07 million.
India was still the country’s biggest seafood import market in the first eight months of this year with the import value of $250.03 million, accounted for 21.9 per cent of the total. In August, the imports of seafood from India reached $18.88 million fell sharply by 42.5 per cent over the previous month and by 64.7 per cent over the same month of 2017.
Norway ranked second with $117.83 million, up by 66.7 per cent in the first eight months of this year. The figure of August was $15.56 million, up by 11.8 per cent over the previous month and by 72.2 per cent over the same month of last year.
The country’s imports of seafood from the South East Asian countries in the first eight months of this year increased sharply by 56.9 per cent year – on – year to $93.19 million. Of the figure, the imports from Indonesia reached $57.12 million, up by 87.1 per cent; from Thailand - $13.75 million, up by 4 per cent; from Singapore - $8.56 million, up by 19.7 per cent; from the Philippines - $6.55 million, up by 92.7 per cent; from Malaysia - $5.17 million, up by 102 per cent; and from Myanmar - $2.03 million, down by 20.1 per cent.
In the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of seafood from China slightly decreased by 4.3 per cent year – on – year to $74.89 million; from Taiwan (CN) – up by over 18 per cent to $74.12 million; and from Japan – up by 48.7 per cent to $73.75 million.
In the first eight months, the country’s imports of seafood from Canada also increased sharply by 77.9 per cent to $30.88 million; from South Korea – up by 66.6 per cent to $54.2 million; from Chile – up by 54.2 per cent to $48.98 million; from the U.S – up by 56.7 per cent to $37.29 million.
However, the imports of seafood from Myanmar decreased by 20.1 per cent to $2.03 million; from Denmark – down by 13.1 per cent to $13.12 million; from Poland – down by 11.1 per cent to $5.05 million.
