US$2.54 billion earned from coffee exports in eight months
Tuesday, September 25,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam exported 1.33 million tons of coffee worth of over US$2.54 billion in the first eight months of this year, increased by 29.5 per cent in quantity and 8.6 per cent in value over the same period last year, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
EU was the biggest coffee export market of Vietnam in the first eight months of this year with 514,042 tons worth of $944.16 million, accounted for 38.8 per cent of the total quantity and 37.2 per cent of the total value, up by 15 per cent in quantity but down by 4.3 per cent in value over the same months of 2017.
Of the figure, the exports of coffee to Germany reached 177,049 tons worth of $319.31 million, up by 12.3 per cent in quantity but down by 7.3 per cent in value over the same period last year; to Italy – 97,690 tons worth of $180.32 million, up by 9.2 per cent in quantity but down by 8.7 per cent in value; to Spain – 84,645 tons worth of $154.39 million, up by 19.6 per cent in quantity but down by 0.3 per cent in value year – on – year.
The country’s exports of coffee to the South East Asian countries in the first eight months of this year rocketed by 140.4 per cent in quantity and 101 per cent in value over the same period last year to 185,769 tons worth of $358 million.
Meanwhile, the exports of coffee to the U.S reached 130,230 tons worth of $247.65 million, down by 6.7 per cent in quantity and 21.8 per cent in value.
The exports of coffee to Japan in the first eight months of this year totaled 74,776 tons worth of $149.32 million, up by 15.1 per cent in quantity but down by 2.9 per cent in value; to Russia – 61,919 tons worth of $130.69 million, up by 106.5 per cent in quantity and 66.6 per cent in value.
Especially, the exports of coffee to Indonesia rocketed by 993 per cent in quantity and 700 per cent in value to 59,613 tons worth of $117.39 million; to South Africa – up by 363.9 per cent in quantity and 286.5 per cent in value to 7,423 tons worth of $13.1 million; to Greece – up by 150.9 per cent in quantity and 103.3 per cent in value to 8,907 tons worth of $15.99 million; to Cambodia – up by 25.9 per cent in quantity and 112.6 per cent in value to 258 tons worth of $1.88 million.
However, the exports of coffee to Singapore fell by 34 per cent in quantity and 49 per cent in value; to Switzerland – down by 42.2 per cent in quantity and 47.4 per cent in value; and to Mexico – down by 13.3 per cent in quantity and 28.8 per cent in value.
