Leading import and export items in first half of 2018

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports and imports of goods saw growth in the first half of 2018. The exports of goods increased by 16.3 per cent year – on – year to $114.19 billion while the imports of goods increased by 9.6 per cent to $110.9 billion, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The leading items in the period were telephones and components with an increased of $3.13 billion; machines, equipment and spare parts – up by $1.89 billion; textiles and garments – up by $1.86 billion; computers, electronics and components – up by $1.81 billion; iron and steel of all kinds – up by $750 million; means of transport and spare parts – up by $655 million; footwear of all kinds – up by $650 million; cameras, camcorders and components – up by $568 million; rice – up by $495 million; wood and furniture – up by $455 million; and seafood – up by $401 million.

Meanwhile, the imports of top ten leading items reached over $76 billion, accounted for nearly 70 per cent of the total. The imports of machines, equipment and spare parts and computers, electronics and components reached $35.7 billion, accounted for 32.2 per cent of the total.

Leading items exported in first half of 2018
Telephones and components: Vietnam exported $3.32 billion worth of telephones and components in June and $22.62 billion in the first six months of this year, up by 16 per cent compared with the same period of 2017.
The main export markets of telephones and components in the period were EU (28 countries) with $6.79 billion, up by 17.8 per cent year – on – year; the U.S with $2.3 billion, up by 12.3 times; South Korea - $2.24 billion, up by 31 per cent; the U.A.E - $2.17 billion, up by 12.9 per cent.

Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam earned $2.49 billion from export of computers, electronic products and components in June of 2018, up by 0.9 per cent compared with the previous month. The figure brought the country’s total exports of computers, electronics and components in the first six months of this year to $13.44 billion, increased by 15.6 per cent compared with the same months of 2017.
The major export markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were China with $3.69 billion, up by 29 per cent year – on – year; the E.U (28 countries) - $2.49 billion, up by 16.8 per cent; South Korea - $1.35 billion, up by 56 per cent.

Textiles and garments: The country’s export of textiles and garments hit $2.75 billion in June, up by 16.6 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of textiles and garments in the first six months of this year to $13.64 billion, up by 15.7 per cent year – on - year.
In the first six months of this year, the country’s exports of textiles and garments to the U.S reached $6.4 billion, up by 11.5 per cent; to the EU –$1.89 billion, up by 12.2 per cent; to Japan –$1.7 billion, up by 23.9 per cent; and to South Korea - $1.3 billion, up by 25.4 per cent over the same period last year.

Machines, equipment, tools and spare parts: : The country earned nearly $1.36 billion from exports of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in June and $7.88 billion in the first six months of this year, up by 31.5 per cent over the same period last year.
The main export markets of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts in the first six months of this year were the U.S with $1.36 million, up by 11.2 per cent year – on – year; to the EU (28 countries) – $1.07 billion, up by 33.7 per cent; and to India - $1.12 billion, up by 6.8 times; and to Japan - $883 million, up by 6 per cent compared with the same period of 2017.

Footwear of all kinds: The export of footwear of all kinds reached $1.46 billion in June and $7.69 billion in the first six months of this year, up by 9.2 per cent year – on - year.
The country’s top export markets of footwear of all kinds in the first six months of this year were the U.S with $2.76 billion, up by 12.9 per cent year – on – year; the E.U (28 countries) - $2.29 million, up by 0.9 per cent; China –$668 million, up by 28.3 per cent.

Means of transport and spare parts: The country’s exports of means of transport and spare parts hit $613 million in June, down by 13.7 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of means of transport and spare parts in the first six months of this year to $4.03 billion, up by 19.4 per cent year – on - year.
In the first six months, the country’s export of means of transport and spare parts to Japan reached $1.17 billion, up by 15.1 per cent; to the U.S - $625 million, up by 27.4 per cent; and to Singapore - $246 million, up by 2.4 times over the same period last year.

Wood and furniture: The country’s exports of wood and furniture hit $750 million in June, up by 3 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of wood and furniture in the first six months of this year to $4.12 billion, up by 12.4 per cent year – on - year.
In the first six months, the country’s exports of wood and furniture to the U.S reached $1.7 billion, up by 12.5 per cent; to China - $556 million, up by 1.1 per cent; and to Japan - $528 million, up by 4.9 per cent year – on - year.

Seafood: The country’s export of seafood hit $764 million in June, down by 0.2 per cent month – on – month. The figure brought the country’s total export of seafood in the first six months of this year to $3.97 billion, up by 11.3 per cent year – on - year.
In the first six months of this year, the country’s export of seafood to EU (28 countries) reached $704 million, up by 21.3 per cent; the U.S – $633 million, down by 0.5 per cent; to Japan – $615 million, up by 5.1 per cent; and China - $482 million, up by 12 per cent over the same period last year.

Iron and steel of all kinds: Vietnam’s exports of iron and steel of all kinds hit 453,000 tons worth of $350 million, down by 2.1 in quantity and 1.4 per cent in value compared with the previous month. The figure of the first six months of this year was 2.81 million tons worth of $2.11 million, up by 38.7 per cent in quantity and 55.4 per cent in value.
The major export markets of iron and steel of all kinds in the first six months of this year were Cambodia with 596,000 tons, up by 50.1 per cent; the U.S – 439,000 tons, up by 77.8 per cent; Indonesia – 334,000 tons, up by 26.4 per cent; Malaysia – 335,000 tons, up by 88 per cent; and EU (28 countries) – 325,000 tons, up by 123 per cent over the same period last year.

Cameras, camcorders and components: The export of cameras, camcorders and components reached $380 million in June and $2.06 billion in the first six months of this year, up by 38.1 per cent year – on - year.
The country’s top export markets of cameras, camcorders and components in the first six months of this year were China with $917 million, up by 16.9 per cent year – on – year; Hong Kong (CN) - $589 million, up by 41.6 per cent; and South Korea –$186 million, up by 4 times.

Leading items imported in first half of 2018
Computers, electronics and components: Vietnam spent over $3.17 billion for import of computers, electronic products and components in June of 2018 and $19.77 billion in the first six months of 2018, up by 14.7 per cent compared with the same period of 2017.
The major import markets of computers, electronic products and components in the first six months of this year were South Korea with $8.49 billion, up by 22.2 per cent year – on – year; China - $3.3 billion, up by 1.9 per cent; Japan - $ 1.77 billion, up by 25.1 per cent.

Machines, equipment, tools and spare parts: : The country imported $2.8 billion worth of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in June and $15.94 billion in the first six months of this year, down by 8.5 per cent year – on - year.
The main import markets of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in the first six months of this year were China with $5.5 billion, up by 3.3 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – $3.11 billion, down by 41.3 per cent; and Japan - $2.15 billion, up by 0.2 per cent over the same period of 2017.

Fabrics of all kinds: Vietnam’s imports of fabrics of all kinds reached $1.14 billion in June and $6.27 billion in the first six months of this year, increased by 14.2 per cent over the same period of 2017.
The major import markets of fabrics of all kinds in the first six months of this year were China with $3.43 billion, up by 18.2 per cent; South Korea - $1.09 million, up by 9.6 per cent; and Taiwan - $806 million, up by 2 per cent.

Telephones and components: Vietnam imported over $876 million worth of telephones and components in June and $5.99 billion in the first six months of this year, down by 4 per cent compared with the same period of 2017.
The main import markets of telephones and components in the period were China with $3.63 billion, up by 11.8 per cent year – on – year; and South Korea - $2 billion, down by 12.7 per cent year – on - year.
Iron and steel of all kinds: The country imported 1.21 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of $879 million in June and 6.88 million tons worth of $4.93 billion in the first six months of this year, down by 12.9 per cent in quantity but up by 6.4 per cent in value year – on - year.
In the first six months of this year, the country imported 3.2 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of over $2.32 billion from China, accounted for 47 per cent of the total; from Japan – 1.1 million tons worth of $781 million.

Petroleum of all kinds: The imports of petroleum of all kinds totaled 1.41 million tons worth of $959 million in June, up by 11.9 per cent in quantity and 9.8 per cent in value over the previous month.
The figure brought the country’s total petroleum imports in the first six months of this year to 7.07 million tons worth of $4.66 billion, up by 11.5 per cent in quantity and 40.4 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
The country’s top import markets of petroleum of all kinds the first six months of this year were South Korea with 1.84 million tons worth of $1.32 billion, up by 24.7 per cent in quantity and 44.7 per cent in value year – on – year; Malaysia – 2.01 million tons worth of $1.24 billion, up by 63.5 per cent in quantity and 118.8 per cent in value; and Singapore – 1.7 million tons worth of $ 1.08 billion, down by 36.4 per cent in quantity and by 17.1 per cent in value.

Plastics: The imports of plastics totaled 452,000 tons worth of $745 million in June, down by 5.3 per cent in quantity and 4.3 per cent in value over the previous month. The figure brought the country’s total imports of plastics in the first six months of this year to 2.66 million tons worth of $4.33 billion, up by 10.8 per cent in quantity and up by 19.4 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
The country’s top import markets of plastics in the first six months of this year were South Korea with 459,000 tons worth of $792 million, up by 6.3 per cent in quantity and 12.4 per cent in value year – on – year; the U.A.E – 510,000 tons worth of $651 million, up by 13.6 per cent in quantity and 25.6 per cent in value; and Taiwan – 366,000 tons worth of $603 million, up by 11.8 per cent in quantity and 18 per cent in value.

Ordinary metals: Vietnam imported 132,000 tons of ordinary metals worth of $535 million in June, down by 11.4 per cent in quantity and by 8.8 per cent in value compared with the previous month. The figure of the first six months of this year was nearly 921,000 tons worth of $3.43 million, down by 1.3 per cent in quantity but up by 16.4 per cent in value year – on – year.
The leading import markets of ordinary metals last year were South Korea with 189,000 tons worth of $761 million, down by 6.6 per cent in quantity and up by 6.7 per cent in value; China – 163,000 tons worth of $595 million, down by 18 per cent in quantity and up by 15.8 per cent in value.

Textile, garment, leather and footwear materials: The country’s imports of textile, garment, leather and footwear materials reached $492 million in June and $2.82 billion in the first six months of this year, up by 3.4 per cent over the same period last year.
The major import markets of textile, garment, leather and footwear materials the first six months of this year were China with the import value of $1.06 billion, up by 3.1 per cent; South Korea - $378 million, down by 2.8 per cent; Taiwan - $231 million, down by 9.7 per cent year – on – year.

Plastic products: The imports of plastic products reached $475 million in June and totaled $2.79 billion in the first six months of this year, up by 11.3 per cent year – on - year.
The country’s top import markets of plastic products in the first six months of this year were China with $990 million, up by 19.3 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – $812 million, up by 5.7 per cent; and Japan – $409 million, up by 7.9 per cent.
