Vietnam’s seafood exports and imports in first half of 2018
Saturday, August 4,2018AsemconnectVietnam - According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, in the first six months of this year, Vietnam earned nearly US$ 4 billion from seafood exports, and spent over US$860 million on importing seafood products.
Exports of seafood increased nearly 11 per cent
Vietnam’s exports of seafood increased 10.9 per cent year – on – year in the first six months of this year to US$3.97 billion, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In June, the country earned $764.04 million, slightly decreased by 0.2 per cent over the previous month.
In the first half of this year, the U.S has surpassed Japan to become the leading seafood export market of Vietnam with the export turnover of $632.78 million, down by 0.7 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 15.9 per cent of the total.
It was followed by Japan with $615.07 million, up by 4.7 per cent; China - $482.11 million – up by 12.1 per cent; South Korea - $390.7 million, up by 19.4 per cent; the Netherlands - $157.75 million, up by 56 per cent; Thailand - $130.69 million, up by 16.6 per cent; and Britain - $127.12 million, up by 16.8 per cent.
In the first six months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of seafood to Cambodia increased sharply by 94.7 per cent to $ 12.11 million; to Pakistan – up by 72.8 per cent to $ 12.32 million; to the U.A.E – up by 67.5 per cent to $40.14 million; to Egypt – up by 66.6 per cent to $21.57 million; to the Netherlands – up by 56 per cent to $157.75 million; and to Turkey –up by 50.9 per cent to $4.86 million.
However, the exports of seafood to Saudi Arabia decreased sharply by 55.3 per cent to $14.06 million; to Indonesia – down by 37.9 per cent to $2.18 million; to Czech – down by 36.6 per cent to $3.29 million; to Brazil – down by 28 per cent to $39.35 million; and to Denmark – down by 27.2 per cent to $18.75 million.
Seafood imports increased
Vietnam imported US$860.67 million worth of seafood in the first half of this year, increased by 32.5 per cent over the same period of 2017, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In June, the country’s seafood imports reached $ 163.28 million, slightly decreased by 0.05 per cent over the previous month.
India was the country’s leading seafood import market in the first six months of this year with the import value of $198.55 million, up by 16.9 per cent over the same period last year and accounted for 23.1 per cent of the total.
Meanwhile, the imports from Norway increased sharply by 68.5 per cent year – on – year to $88.29 million; from the South East Asian countries – up by 44.9 per cent to $63.46 million; from Taiwan – up by 32.4 per cent to $55.5 million.
Especially, the imports of seafood from Canada rocketed by 105.6 per cent to $14.24 million; from South Korea – up by 90.7 per cent to $41.56 million; from Chile – up by 78.3 per cent to $40.56 million; and from Malaysia – up by 75.5 per cent to $3.32 million.
However, the country’s imports of seafood from Myanmar, Denmark and China decreased by 29.1 per cent; 20.3 per cent and 3.1 per cent to $1.4 million; $9.68 million; and $58.21 million, respectively year – on – year.
