Exports to U.S, China, Britain in first half of 2018

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the statistics figures released by the General Department of Customs, in the first six months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of goods to the leading economies in the world such as the U.S, China and Britain saw growth.

The exports of goods to the U.S took up nearly 19 per cent of the country’s total export turnover in the period, while the exports to China increased sharply by over $3.6 billion over the same period last year.

Exports to U.S increased nearly 10 per cent in first half of 2018
Vietnam earned US$21.6 billion from exports of goods to the U.S in the first six months of this year, increased by 9.66 per cent over the same period of 2017, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
The exports to the U.S accounted for 18.9 per cent of the country’s total export turnover in the first six months of this year.

The leading items exported by the country to the U.S in the first six months of this year were textiles and garments with $6.3 billion, up by 11.23 per cent year – on – year; footwear of all kinds - $2.7 billion, up by 11.4 per cent; telephones and components - $2.3 billion, up by 12.32 per cent; wood and furniture - $1.6 billion, up by 12.48 per cent; and machines, equipment and spare parts - $1.3 billion, up by 11.15 per cent.

Especially, the country’s exports of crude oil to the U.S in the first six months of this year increased by 4 times or 381.95 per cent year – on – year to $68.4 million; while the exports of fibers of all kinds – up by 1.03 times or 103.21 per cent to $21 million; animal feed and materials – up by 80.19 per cent to $21.1 million; and iron and steel – up by 83.53 per cent to $375.6 million.

However, in the first six months, the exports of pepper; cameras, camcorders and components; chemicals and rubber increased sharply by 36.6 per cent; 35.56 per cent; 24.74 per cent; and 20.45 per cent, respectively year – on - year.

Exports of goods to China increased sharply in first half of 2018
Vietnam exported US$16.6 billion worth of goods to China in the first six months of this year, increased sharply by $3.626 billion over the same period last year, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In the period, computers, electronics and components were the leading item exported by the country to China with the export turnover of $3.6 billion, up by 28.97 per cent. It was followed by telephones and components – over $2 billion, up by 267.19 per cent; fruit and vegetables - $1.4 billion, up by 17.97 per cent; and fibers of all kinds - $1 billion, up by 15.78 per cent over the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the exports of cameras, camcorders and components to China reached $917 million; machines, equipment and spare parts - $716.3 million; footwear of all kinds - $667.5 million.
Especially, the exports of cement and clinker to China increased by 90 times in quantity and 102 times in value year – on – year to 3.8 million tons worth of $131.6 million.

The exports of plastics to China also increased sharply by 4 times in quantity and 3 times in value to 316,200 tons worth of $241.8 million; crude oil – up by 63.9 per cent in quantity and 50.53 per cent in value; rice – up by 27.44 per cent in quantity and 14.62 per cent in value.

Exports to Britain totaled US$2.7 billion in the first half of 2018
Vietnam’s exports of goods to Britain increased by 14 per cent year – on – year in the first six months of this year to US$2.7 billion, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Telephones and components were leading the list of items exported by the country to Britain in the first six months of this year with the export turnover of over $1 billion, up by 26.06 per cent and accounted for 39.6 per cent of the total. It was followed by textiles and garments with $347.7 million, up by 4.5 per cent; and footwear of all kinds with $324.7 million, down by 2.68 per cent year – on – year.

In the first six months of this year, the country’s exports of almost all items to Britain saw growth.
The exports of electric wires and cables to Britain increased sharply by 4.3 times or 334.76 per cent to $ 3.7 million; while the exports of iron and steel – up by 2.3 times or 138.25 per cent to $40.2 million; and precious stones, metals and products – up by 2.1 times or 114.58 per cent to $1.9 million.
However, the country’s exports of pepper; porcelain and ceramic products; and fruits and vegetables fell by 40.22 per cent; 26.25 per cent and 17.3 per cent to $9.6 million; $11.2 million and $2.7 million, respectively year – on – year.
