Imports of goods from Japan, Thailand and Malaysia saw growth

Imports from Japan reached over US$ 7.3 billion
Vietnam imported US$7.32 billion worth of goods from Japan in the first five months of this year, increased by 15.1 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In May, the country’s imports of goods from Japan reached $1.52 billion, up by 14.9 per cent over the previous month and by 16.6 per cent over the same month of last year.
Machines, equipment and spare parts were leading the list of items imported by the country from Japan in the first five months of this year with the import value of nearly $1.8 billion, up by 3.1 per cent year – on – year.
It was followed by computers, electronics and components with $1.49 billion, up by 30.8 per cent; iron and steel - $ 630.35 million, up by 9.8 per cent; plastic products - $332.34 million, up by 10.5 per cent.
In the first five months of this year, the country’s imports of coal from Japan rocketed by 134 times to $3.24 million; telephones and components – up by 176.4 per cent to $70.52 million; cameras, camcorders and components – up by 104.5 per cent to $83.86 million; milk and dairy products – up by 88.4 per cent to $ 11.86 million; fibers of all kinds – up by 73.8 per cent to $31.49 million; pharmaceuticals – up by 66.6 per cent to $28.64 million.
However, the imports of CBU autos from Japan decreased by 69.6 per cent to $17.18 million; animal feed and materials – down by 48.6 per cent to $1.18 million; means of transport and spare parts – down by 29.5 per cent to $71.76 million; household appliances and components – down by 26 per cent to $6.43 million.
Imports from Thailand totaled US$4.4 billion
Vietnam’s imports of goods from Thailand increased by 13.3 per cent year – on – year in the first five months of this year to over US$4.4 billion showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
Meanwhile, Vietnam’s exports of goods to Thailand in the first five months of this year reached $2.22 billion, up by 24.2 per cent over the same period last year. So the country got over $2.18 billion of deficit in trade exchange with Thailand in the period.
Oil and grease were leading the list of items imported by the country from Thailand in the first five months of this year with the import value of $14.01 million, up by 395.9 per cent; gas - $39.2 million, up by 276.8 per cent; fragrant and hygiene products - $46.39 million, up by 103.7 per cent.
Besides, the country’s imports of pharmaceutical materials; petroleum; ordinary metals and crude oil increased sharply by 98.7 per cent; 72.8 per cent; 67.4 per cent and 65.3 per cent, respectively year – on – year.
However, the imports of corn from Thailand fell sharply by 81.2 per cent year – on – year to only $8.32 million; and the imports of CBU autos; fertilizer and pesticides also fell sharply by 48 per cent; 28.9 per cent and 26.9 per cent, respectively.
Imports of goods from Malaysia increased
Vietnam imported US$3.24 billion worth of goods from Malaysia in the first five months of this year, increased by 44.7 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In May, the country’s imports of goods from Japan reached $737.26 million, up by 18.2 per cent over the previous month and by 45.5 per cent over the same month of last year.
Petroleum was leading the list of items imported by the country from Malaysia in the first five months of this year with the import value of nearly $1.05 billion, up by 127.3 per cent year – on – year and accounted for 32.6 per cent of the total.
It was followed by computers, electronics and components with $317.41 million, up by 53.2 per cent; ordinary metals - $142.38 million, up by 66.5 per cent; household appliances - $138.08 million, up by 1.1 per cent.
In the first five months of this year, the country’s imports of gas from Malaysia rocketed by 788.4 per cent to $11.66 million; glass and products – up by 301.4 per cent to $15.88 million; petroleum – up by 127.3 per cent to $1.05 billion; fertilizer of all kinds – up by 110.8 per cent to $23.91 million; coal – up by 101.7 per cent to $8.85 million; fabrics – up by 98.2 per cent to $36.12 million; chemicals – up by 94.6 per cent to $111.14 million; other oil products – up by 88.4 per cent to $ 58.71 million; and seafood – up by 83.1 per cent to $2.6 million.
However, the imports of means of transport and spare parts from Malaysia fell sharply by 95.9 per cent to $0.22 million; pharmaceuticals – down by 74.3 per cent to $1.31 million; tobacco materials – down by 41.3 per cent to $1.44 million; fragrant and cosmetics – down by 29.6 per cent to $3.94 million; electric wires and cables – down by 27.7 per cent to $17.5 million.
