Exports of rice to Indonesia and Bangladesh increased sharply

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam exported 2.96 million tons of rice worth of US$ 1.5 billion in the first five months of this year, increased by 25.7 per cent in quantity and 42.6 per cent in value compared with the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
The average rice export price in the first five months of this year was $ 505.1 per ton, up by 13.4 per cent year - on - year.
In May, the country exported 763,707 tons of rice worth of $ 391.38 million, up by 5.9 per cent in quantity and 7.4 per cent in value compared with the previous month. The figure was up by 31.8 per cent in quantity and 51.4 per cent in value compared with the same month of 2017.
China was the country’s leading rice export market in the first five months of this year with 844,097 tons worth of $ 449.43 million, down by 21.3 per cent in quantity and 7.9 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
It was followed by Indonesia with 596,058 tons worth of $ 280.04 million, rocketed by 291 times in quantity and 269 times in value year - on - year.
The exports of rice to Malaysia reached 273,019 tons worth of $ 122.4 million, up by 150 per cent in quantity and 177.6 per cent in value.
In the first five months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of rice to Iraq increased sharply by 18.7 times in quantity and 25.7 times in value compared with the same period last year to 150,000 tons worth of $ 85.56 million.
Meanwhile, the country’s exports of rice to Bangladesh reached 3,994 tons worth of $ 1.57 million, up by 90.8 times in quantity and 61.6 times in value.
The exports of rice to Turkey also rocketed by 813.8 per cent to 4,377 tons; to France - up by 294.4 per cent to 710 tons; to the U.S - up by 135.9 per cent to 26,268 tons; to Poland - up by 75.4 per cent to 1,110 tons.
