Agro-forestry-fishery export value picks up neary 10 percent
Saturday, June 9,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Export revenue of agroforestry-aquatic products hit US$3.2 billion in May, bringing the five-month figure to US$15.6 billion, a year-on-year surge of 9.9%, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
During the first five months of the year, farm produce exports were estimated at US$8.25 billion, up 9.6% year-on-year.
Seafood products contributed US$3.12 billion to the total export turnover, up 9.7%, and forestry products US$3.4 billion, up 8.7%.
The Viet Nam Administration of Forestry said that China, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the U.S.were the four largest importers of Vietnamese wood and wood-based products. The export value of forestry products accounted for nearly 22% of the total export value.
During the first five months of the year, export earnings from farm produce were estimated at US$8.25 billion, up 9.6% year-on-year. Meanwhile, revenues from shipments of aquatic and forestry products reached US$3.12 billion and US$3.4 billion, respective increases of 9.7% and 8.7%.
In May alone, Viet Nam exported 452,000 tons of rice worth US$347 million, raising the five-month volume and value to 2.66 million tons and US$1.45 billion, up 13.9% and 40%, respectively. China remained the top importer of Viet Nam?s rice.
In addition, the country enjoyed robust shipments of cashew. In the five month period, it sold 139,000 tons of cashew abroad and earned US$1.37 billion, the volume rose 19% and the value was up by nearly 23% compared to the same period last year.
Some 1.3 million tons of cassava and cassava products were sold in foreign countries for US$460 million, falling 25.6% in volume and soaring 7.3% in value.
Meanwhile, the country earned US$265 million from selling 135,000 tons of coffee in May. The five-month volume and value were 820,000 tons and US$1.6 billion, up 16% and down 0.8%, respectively.
The export turnover of pepper experienced a plunge of 37.6%. A total 108,000 tons were shipped abroad at a value of US$ 377 million.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development reported that Viet Nam spent US$2.84 billion on importing agro-forestry-aquatic products, pushing the five-month figure to US$12.29 billion, up 10.6% year-on-year.
