Imports of plastics increased sharply

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s imports of plastics in the first four months of this year increased by 10.2 per cent in quantity and by 18.5 per cent in value compared with the same period last year to 1.69 million tons worth of $ 2.69 billion, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In April only, the imports of plastics reached 377,483 tons worth of $ 620.5 million, down by 22.4 per cent in quantity and 30.3 per cent in value compared with the previous month.

The country’s imports of plastics from the South East Asian countries in the first four months of this year reached 350,388 tons worth of $ 513.07 million, up by 23.7 per cent in quantity and 29.5 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the imports from South Korea increased by 3.5 per cent in quantity and 8.6 per cent in value to 295,474 tons worth of $ 505.56 million; from Saudi Arabia – up by 15 per cent in quantity and 25.5 per cent in value to 333.101 tons worth of $ 418.9 million.

The imports from China were up by 4.7 per cent in quantity and 18.7 per cent in value to 162,343 tons worth of $ 316.16 million.

In the first four months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of plastics from India increased sharply by 123 per cent in quantity and 115 per cent in value to 44,579 tons worth of $ 56.79 million; from Germany – up by 95 per cent to $ 60.44 million; from the Philippines – up by 74.2 per cent to $ 10.58 million; from Thailand – up by 43.7 per cent to $ 266.48 million; from South Africa – up by 43.6 per cent to $ 10.74 million.

However, the imports of plastics from Brazil, Canada, France, and Belgium fell by 46.4 per cent; 45 per cent; 30 per cent and 28.9 per cent in value year – on – year.
