Vietnam’s exports of goods in first four months of 2018

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of goods were estimated at US$ 18.2 billion in April, fell by 13.9 per cent over the previous month, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In April, the exports of iron and steel decreased sharply by 32.1 per cent; telephones and components – down by 24.1 per cent; computers, electronics and components – down by 11.1 per cent; machines, equipment and spare parts – down by 12.5 per cent over the previous month.

However the exports in April were up by 4.1 per cent over the same month of last year. The exports of machines, equipment and spare parts increased by 32.2 per cent; textiles and garments – up by 18.4 per cent; means of transport and spare parts – up by 17.9 per cent year – on – year. 

In the first four months of this year, Vietnam’s total exports reached $ 73.76 billion, up by 19 per cent over the same period of 2017. Of the figure, the exports of the domestic economic sector reached $ 20.28 billion, up by 17.9 per cent; while the exports of foreign direct investment (including crude oil) reached $ 53.48 billion, up by 19.4 per cent.

In the first four months, the country’s exports of telephones and components increased by 36.8 per cent to $ 16.6 billion; textiles and garments – up by 15.7 per cent to $ 8.6 billion; computers, electronics and components – up by 10.8 per cent to $ 8.3 billion; machines, equipment and spare parts – up by 29.6 per cent to $ 5 billion; footwear of all kinds – up by 6.4 per cent to $ 4.5 billion; means of transport and spare parts – up by 18.3 per cent to $ 2.6 billion; wood and furniture – up by 9 per cent to $ 2.6 billion.

The exports of seafood also increased moderately by 13 per cent to $ 2.4 billion; fruits and vegetables – up by 26.2 per cent to $ 1.3 billion; cashew nuts – up by 33.5 per cent to $ 1.1 billion; rice – up by 38.3 per cent to $ 1.1 billion.

However, the exports of crude oil fell by 24.9 per cent to $ 668 million; and pepper – down by 31.9 per cent to $ 317 million.
The U.S was the country’s biggest export market in the first four months of this year with the export turnover of $ 14 billion, up by 12.7 per cent over the same period last year. The country’s exports of telephones and components to the U.S increased by 56.4 per cent; footwear of all kinds – up by 13.5 per cent; and textiles and garments – up by 12.1 per cent.

Meanwhile, the exports of goods to EU reached $ 13.2 billion, up by 16 per cent. The country’s exports of telephones and components to EU were up by 30.7 per cent; computers, electronics and components – up by 7.9 per cent.

The exports of goods to China in the first four months of this year reached $ 10.7 billion, up by 29 per cent year – on – year. The exports of telephones and components to China increased by nearly 3.7 times compared with the same period last year; fruits and vegetables – up by 24 per cent; computers, electronics and components – up by 23 per cent.

The country’s exports of goods to ASEAN reached $ 7.9 billion, up by 16.4 per cent. The exports of rice to ASEAN were up by 159 per cent; iron and steel – up by 52.5 per cent; telephones and components  - up by 16 per cent.

The exports of goods to Japan in the first four months of this year totaled $ 5.8 billion, up by 15.2 per cent; of which the exports of textiles and garments increased by 24.1 per cent; means of transport and spare parts – up by 17.2 per cent.

Meanwhile, the exports to South Korea totaled $ 5.8 billion, up by 31.2 per cent; of which the exports of computers, electronics and components were up by 46.2 per cent; telephones and components – up by 37.4 per cent; and textiles and garments – up by 22.6 per cent.
