Imports of cell phones from the U.S fell sharply
Tuesday, May 8,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s imports of telephones and components in the first quarter of this year totaled US$ 3.32 billion, increased by 13.3 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In March only, the country’s imports of cell phones and accessories reached nearly $ 980.67 million, up by 27.9 per cent over the previous month but down by 14.3 per cent over the same month of 2017.
China was the country’s biggest import market of cell phones and accessories in the first quarter of this year with the import value of nearly $ 1.96 billion, accounted for 58.8 per cent of the total and increased by 21.6 per cent over the same period last year; while the imports from South Korea reached $ 1.2 billion, up by 16.3 per cent.
Meanwhile, the imports of telephones and components from Hong Kong reached $ 17.05 million, down by 77.7 per cent; from the U.S - $ 1.47 million, down by 95.3 per cent; from Japan increased sharply by 78.6 per cent to $ 24.48 million; from Taiwan - $ 2.04 million, down by 69 per cent; from Britain - $ 0.6 million, down by 95 per cent; from Sweden - $ 1.19 million, up by 110 per cent.
Vietnam exported US$ 5.27 billion worth of telephones and components in March and $ 12.6 billion in the first three months of this year, increased sharply by 62 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
The major export markets of telephones and components in the period were EU - $ 3.46 billion, up by 47.9 per cent; China - $ 1.45 billion, up by 447.5 per cent; the U.S - $ 1.41 billion, up by 127.8 per cent; South Korea - $ 1.22 billion, up by 61 per cent; Austria - $ 1.16 billion, up by 132.8 per cent year – on – year.
