Vietnam – Laos trade exchange strengthened in first quarter
Friday, May 4,2018AsemconnectVietnam - The bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and Laos reached US$ 253 million in the first quarter of this year, increased by 7.1 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
Of the figure, Vietnam exported $ 135.56 million worth of goods to Laos, up by 0.3 per cent year – on – year.
The major items exported by the country to Laos in the first quarter of this year included iron and steel of all kinds - $ 25.33 million, up by 51.5 per cent; petroleum of all kinds - $ 20.77 million, down by 22.6 per cent; means of transport and spare parts - $ 13.63 million, up by 6.1 per cent; iron and steel of all kinds - $ 8.88 million, up by 12.1 per cent; machines, equipment and spare parts - $ 8.35 million, up by 18 per cent; fertilizer of all kinds - $ 4.11 million, up by 25 per cent; plastic products - $ 2.9 million, down by 28.2 per cent; fruits and vegetables - $ 2.6 million, up by 28.7 per cent; cement and clinker - $ 2.1 million, down by 24 per cent; confectionery and grain products and grain products - $ 2.1 million, down by 3.4 per cent; ceramic and porcelain products - $ 1.8 million, up by 20 per cent; electric wires and cables - $ 1.5 million, up by 11 per cent; paper and products - $ 1.1 million, up by 9.7 per cent; textiles and garments - $ 860,000, down by 44.3 per cent; ordinary metals and products - $ 676,000, down by 37.6 per cent; non – wooden furniture - $ 331,000, up by 175 per cent; and coal – $ 160,000, down by 94.7 per cent.
Also in the first quarter of this year, Vietnam imported $ 117.5 million worth of goods from Laos, up by 16.3 per cent year – on – year. The main items imported by the country from Laos in the first quarter of this year were fertilizer of all kinds - $ 10.3 million, up by 16.6 per cent; wood and furniture - $ 6.2 million, up by 143.2 per cent; ores and minerals - $ 5.5 million, down by 32.7 per cent; other ordinary metals and products - $ 4.3 million, up by 156.2 per cent; and corn - $ 137,000, down by 39 per cent.
