Seafood imports and exports in first quarter of 2018
Thursday, May 3,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of seafood in March were estimated at US$ 608 million, bringing the total seafood exports in the first three months to $ 1.7 billion, up by 11.5 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Also in March, the country’s seafood import value reached $ 151 million, bringing the total seafood import value in three months of this year to $ 423 million, up by 32.4 per cent year – on - year.
Meanwhile, tra fish production in the Mekong Delta was estimated at 230,200 tons, up by 5.1 per cent year – on – year. The production of tra fish in An Giang was at 73,300 tons, up by 3 per cent; Dong Thap – 78,400 tons, up by 7 per cent; and Vinh Long – 13,200 tons, up by 18.3 per cent year – on - year.
Imports of seafood from Philippines and Indonesia increased sharply
According to the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s imports of seafood in March increased by 35.8 per cent over the previous month and by 16.2 per cent over the same month of last year to US$ 133.99 million. The figure brought the country’s total imports of seafood in the first quarter of this year to nearly $ 406.46 million, up by 27.9 per cent year – on – year.
Vietnam imported seafood mostly from India, Norway, China, Taiwan and Japan. India was leading the list with $ 91.22 million, up by 13.5 per cent; then Norway - $ 44.42 million, up by 86.3 per cent; Taiwan - $ 28.66 million, up by 31.2 per cent; and China - $ 24.33 million, down by 11.5 per cent.
In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam’s imports of seafood from the Philippines increased sharply by 115.8 per cent year – on – year to $ 2.26 million; from Indonesia – up by 100.3 per cent to $ 19.75 million; from Chile – up by 98.4 per cent to $ 21.77 million; from Norway – up by 83.6 per cent to $ 44.42 million; and from Malaysia – up by 82 per cent to $ 1.48 million.
