Car imports in the first months of 2018

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s imports of car saw decrease in January and February of this year.

But in March, the car imports saw growth.
However, the country’s total imports of car in the first quarter of this year still decreased sharply compared with the figure of the first quarter of 2017

Imports of car increased both in quantity and value in March
Vietnam imported 3,676 cars worth of US$ 84.61 million in March, increased sharply by 16 times in quantity and 6 times in value compared with the previous month, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

However, as the falling imports in the first two months of this year, the country’s total imports of cars in the first quarter of this year reached only 4,217 units worth of $ 118.4 million, down by 84 per cent in quantity and 75.7 per cent in value year – on – year.

In March, the country imported 3,434 cars from Thailand, accounted for 93.4 per cent of the total. However, the total car imports from Thailand reached only 3,470 units worth of $ 73.17 million. The imports of cars from China in March also increased sharply by 187 per cent in quantity and 482 per cent in value.

Imports of cars fell sharply in the first two months

In the period, the country imported 562 cars worth of nearly US$ 35.31 million, decreased by 96.3 per cent in quantity and 88.6 per cent in value compared with the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Of the figure, the imports from Russia reached 285 units worth of $ 20.52 million fell by 23.8 per cent in quantity but up by 16.2 per cent in value year – on – year.
The imports of cars from China reached 95 units worth of $ 2.44 million, down by 79.2 per cent in quantity and 85.8 per cent in value while the figure from the U.S reached 51 units worth of $ 3.34 million, down by 86.6 per cent in quantity and 74 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
In January only, the country’s imports of cars also decreased. The imports of cars from Thailand saw the sharpest decrease.

The country’s total imports of cars in the first month of this year fell by 95.3 per cent in quantity and 85.8 per cent in value compared with the same period last year, and by 97.5 per cent in quantity and 94 per cent in value compared with the previous month, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Russia was leading the list of the country’s major car import markets in January with 159 units worth of $ 12.1 million, down by 47.65 per cent in quantity but up by 10.2 per cent in value year – on – year.
It was followed by China with 65 units worth of $ 2 million, down by 30.85 per cent in quantity and 39.72 per cent in value; and then the U.S, Thailand, South Korea and Japan.

In January of this year, the country’s imports of cars from Thailand decreased sharply by 97.81 per cent; from South Korea – down by 97.81 per cent; and from Japan – down by 97.24 per cent.

By the end of January, the country’s car imports saw decrease. The imports of cars from Thailand saw the sharpest decrease.
