In February only, the country imported 326,134 tons of plastics worth of nearly $ 516.42 million, down by 34.3 per cent in quantity and 31.8 per cent in value compared with the previous month.

The main import markets of plastics in the period were South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Japan and Singapore.

South Korea was leading with 152,598 tons worth of $ 255.42 million, accounted for 18.6 per cent of the total quantity and 20 per cent of the total value, increased by 6.2 per cent in quantity and 14 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the imports from Saudi Arabia reached 172,944 tons worth of $ 211.08 million, up by 22.8 per cent in quantity and 33 per cent in value year – on – year.

The imports from Taiwan totaled 106,490 tons worth of $ 169.07 million, up by 14.3 per cent in quantity and 17.4 per cent in value.

The imports of plastics from the South East Asian countries reached 174,069 tons worth of $ 245.73 million, up by 30.4 per cent in quantity and 33.4 per cent in value.

In the first two months of this year, the imports of plastics from South Africa, India, Britain, Russia, and
Thailand increased sharply by 138.6 per cent; 133.8 per cent; 97.6 per cent; 76.2 per cent and 55.3 per cent, respectively year – on – year.
