Vietnam’s imports and exports in first quarter of 2018

Of the figure, the export turnover was estimated at $ 54.31 billion, up by 22 per cent while the import value was estimated at $ 53 billion, up by 13.6 per cent.
The country’s trade revenue in March was estimated at US$ 38.8 billion in March of 2018, increased by 36.8 per cent over the previous month. Of the figure, the export turnover was at $ 19.8 billion, up by 38.2 per cent over the previous month while the import value was at $ 19 billion, up by 35.4 per cent.
The country’s trade surplus was estimated at $ 800 million in March and $ 1.3 billion in the first 3 months.
The leading export items in March were telephones and components with $ 5 billion, up by 47.1 per cent month – on – month; textiles and garments - $ 2.2 billion, up by 35 per cent; computers, electronics and components - $ 2.2 billion, up by 28 per cent.
Especially, in March of this year, the exports of seafood increased sharply by 48.1 per cent over the previous month to $ 600 million. The total seafood exports in the first 3 months of this year were at $ 1.67 billion, up by 11.2 per cent year – on – year.
The exports of coffee in March reached 180,000 tons worth of $ 347 million, up by 38.6 per cent, and by 38.1 per cent, respectively over the same period last year. The figure of the first 3 months of this year was 510 million tons worth of $ 989 million.
Meanwhile, the leading import items in March were computers, electronics and components - $ 3.6 billion; machines, equipment and spare parts - $ 2.5 billion; telephones and components - $ 1.1 billion; petroleum of all kinds - $ 800 million.
Exports of farm-forestry-fishery products increased slightly
Vietnam’s exports of farm, forestry and seafood products in the first quarter of this year totaled US$ 8.7 billion
Of the figure, the exports of major farm products reached US$ 4.6 billion, up by 9 per cent year - on - year, while, the exports of seafood reached $ 1.7 billion, up by 11.5 per cent; and the exports of forestry items reached nearly $ 2 billion, up by 6.6 per cent.
In March, the exports of rice were estimated at 524,000 tons worth of $ 261 million, raising the total rice export volume in January-March to 1.36 million tons worth of $ 669 million, up by 9.4 per cent in volume and 24 percent in value compared with the same period of 2017.
Meanwhile, the exports of cashew nuts were estimated at 26,000 tons worth of $ 265 million in March and 73,000 tons worth of $ 739 million, up by 30.9 per cent in quantity and 43.6 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
The exports of wood and furniture were estimated at $ 661 million in March and $ 1.87 billion in the first 3 months of this year, up by 5.8 per cent over the same period of 2017.
The country also earned $ 604 million from exports of seafood in March and $ 1.7 billion in the first 3 months of 2018, up by 11.5 per cent yearw – on – year. The U.S, Japan, China and South Korea were the leading seafood export market markets of Vietnam.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country’s imports of farm, forestry and seafood products were estimated at $ 2.43 billion in March and $ 6.89 billiion in the first 3 months of this year, up by 8.4 per cent year – on – year. Of the figure, the imports of farm, forestry and seafood products reached $ 5.42 billion, up by 19 per cent year – on - year.
