Thai car imports rev up in late March

AsemconnectVietnam - Around 404 out of the 986 completely-built-up (CBU) cars, valued at more than US$21 million, which were imported into Vietnam in the last week of March originated from Thailand, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs.

In the period, 481 cars with fewer than nine seats, worth nearly US$10.9 million, were registered for import into Vietnam. Of that number, 404 cars were from Thailand, 52 from Sweden, 17 from Mexico, three from Japan, two from the US, and three from the UK, Germany, and Taiwan.

Also 483 trucks worth nearly US$8.7 million were imported into Vietnam via ports in Hai Phong and Ho Chi Minh City, with all of them coming from Thailand.
Vietnam bought 22 other automobiles worth US$1.47 million, including eight vehicles from Japan, eight from China, five from France, and one from Italy. These vehicles were shipped into Vietnam via ports in Hai Phong, HCM City, and Lang Son.

Vietnam Customs also reported that imports of automobile components and spare parts hit nearly US$60.5 million in the last week of March. These products were mainly imported from Japan (US$16.6 million), China (US$10.6 million), Thailand (US$10.4 million), the Republic of Korea (US$9.7 million), and Germany (US$3.9 million). The five markets accounted for 85% of the country’s total imports of automobile components and spare parts.
