Seafood imports increased sharply in first 2 months
Wednesday, March 21,2018AsemconnectVietnam - In the first two months of 2018, Vietnam’s imports of seafood increased sharply by 34.5 per cent year – on – year to US$ 271.63 million, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
In February only, the country’s imports of seafood reached $ 98.7 million, fell by nearly 43 per cent month – on – month and by 6.2 per cent year – on – year.
The leading import markets of seafood in the first two months of this year were India, Norway, Taiwan, Chile, China, and Japan.
In the period, the imports of seafood from India reached $ 64.81 million, up by 18.5 per cent year – on – year; from Norway - $ 27.9 million, up by 85.2 per cent; from Taiwan - $ 21.04 million, up by 54.4 per cent; from Chile - $ 17.37 million, up by 171 per cent; and from China - $ 17.07 million, up by 7.6 per cent.
The country’s imports of seafood from the South East Asia countries accounted for 8 per cent of the total with $ 21.85 million, up by 55.2 per cent.
In the first two months, the country’s imports of seafood from Poland increased sharply by 113.7 per cent to $ 2.03 million; from Indonesia – up by 112.6 per cent to $ 15.22 million; and from Malaysia – up by 101.4 per cent to $ 0.81 million.
However, the imports of seafood from Denmark, Thailand and Canada decreased sharply by 56.7 per cent; 25.5 per cent; and 23.4 per cent, respectively over the same period last year.
