Leading import items in first month of 2018

AsemconnectVietnam - In the first month of this year, 4 groups of items got the import value of over US$ 1 billion, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The key items imported by the country in January of this year were:
Computers, electronics and components: Vietnam spent over $ 3.7 billion for import of computers, electronic products and components in January of 2018, slightly decreased compared with the previous month and up by 70 per cent compared with the same month of 2017.
The major import markets of computers, electronic products and components in January were South Korea with $ 1.59 billion, up by 110 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 643 million, up by 39.5 per cent; and Japan - $ 352 million, up by 122  per cent.

Machines, equipment, tools and spare parts:
 The country imported $ 2.92 billion worth of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in January of 2018. The figures were down by 0.8 per cent month – on – month and by 30.6 per cent year – on - year.
China was the leading import market of machines, equipment and spare parts for Vietnam in the first month of this year. The country’s imports of machines, equipment and spare parts from China accounted for 36.4 per cent of the total in January. 

According to the figure of the General Department of Customs, in the first month of this year, Vietnam imported US$ 2.92 billion worth of machines, equipment and spare parts, accounted for 14.6 per cent of the total import value of the country in the month, increased by nearly 24.9 per cent year – on – year but decreased slightly by 0.8 per cent month – on – month. 
China was the country’s biggest import market of machines, equipment and spare parts in January with the import value of $ 1.06 billion. It was followed by South Korea with $ 577.4 million, down by 6.1 per cent; Japan - $ 363.17 million, up by 50.9 per cent; Germany - $ 153.4 million, up by 113.9 per cent; and Taiwan - $ 122.42 million, up by 38.7 per cent.

The imports of machines, equipment and spare parts from EU countries reached $ 342.01 million, up by 61.4 per cent year – on – year while the imports from the South East Asian countries was up by 69 per cent to $ 194.34 million.
In January, the country’s imports of machines, equipment and spare parts from Hungary rocketed by 504.9 per cent to $ 12.17 million; from Russia – up by 432 per cent to $ 3.96 million; from Ukraine – up by 336.6 per cent to $ 1.2 million; from Czech – up by 280.7 per cent to $ 9.55 million; from Poland – up by 229 per cent to $ 7.34 million; and from the Philippines – up by 140 per cent to $ 9.34 million.

However, the imports of machines, equipment and spare parts from South Africa decreased by 97.9 per cent to $ 0.05 million; from Israel – down by 67.8 per cent to $ 2.8 million; from the U.A.E – down by 63.2 per cent to $ 0.14 million; from Turkey – down by 48.4 per cent to $ 3.39 million; from Belarus – down by 43.4 per cent to $ 0.14 million; and from Finland – down by 39.3 per cent to $ 9.92 million.

elephones and components
: Vietnam imported $ 1.58 billion worth of telephones and components in January, down by 15.3 per cent compared with the previous month and up by 89.2 per cent over the same month of 2017.
The main import markets of telephones and components in January were China with $ 1.02 billion, up by 106.2 per cent year – on – year; South Korea - $ 483 million, up by 93.1 per cent; and Thailand - $ 29 million, up by 202 per cent year – on - year.

Fabrics of all kinds:
 Vietnam’s imports of fabrics of all kinds reached $ 1.04 billion in January, increased by 2 per cent over the previous month and up by 58.7 per cent over the same month of 2017.
The major import markets of fabrics of all kinds in January of this year were China with $ 587 million, up by 57.3 per cent; South Korea - $ 195 million, up by 59.1 per cent; Taiwan - $ 120 million, up by 43.4 per cent.

Iron and steel of all kinds:
The country imported 1.16 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of $ 809 million in January, up by 5.1 per cent in quantity and by 7.6 per cent in value compared with the previous month. The figure was down by 3.9 per cent in quantity and up by 24 per cent in value year – on - year.
In January, the country imported $ 304 million worth of iron and steel of all kinds from China, down by 9 per cent; from South Korea - $ 139 million, up by 32.7 per cent; and from Japan - $ 130 million, up by 71.9 per cent year – on - year.

Petroleum of all kinds
: The imports of petroleum of all kinds totaled 1.29 million tons worth of $ 791 million in January, up by 3 per cent in quantity and 4.5 per cent in value over the previous month. The figure was up by 48.4 per cent in quantity and 59 per cent in value.
The country’s top import markets of petroleum of all kinds in January of this year were Malaysia with $ 261 million, up by 216.7 per cent; South Korea –$ 213 million, up by 22.3 per cent; and Thailand –$ 122 million, up by 120 per cent year – on - year.

Plastics
: The import of plastics totaled 496,000 tons worth of $ 757 million in January, up by 16.1 per cent in quantity and 14.5 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
The country’s top import markets of plastics in January were South Korea with $ 148 million, up by 51.9 per cent; the U.A.E – $ 133 million, up by 114.5 per cent; Taiwan – $ 100 million, up by 50.6 per cent.

Ordinary metals:
Vietnam imported 128,000 tons of ordinary metals worth of $ 510 million in January, down by 0.3 per cent in quantity but up by 1.9 per cent in value compared with the previous month. The figure was up by 5.8 per cent in quantity and 37.5 per cent in value.
The leading import markets of ordinary metals in January were South Korea with $ 81 million, up by 28.2 per cent; China - $ 59 million, down by 32.4 per cent; and Australia - $ 41 million, up by 101.8 per cent compared with the same month of last year.

Textile, garment, leather and footwear materials
: The country’s imports of textile, garment, leather and footwear materials reached $ 437 million in January, up by 5.1 per cent over the previous month and by 36.7 per cent over the same month of last year.
The major import markets of textile, garment, leather and footwear materials in January were China with the import value of $ 176 billion, up by  27.8 per cent; South Korea - $ 63 million, up by 28 per cent.
