Exports to South Korea and India saw growth in 2017

AsemconnectVietnam - South Korea and India are the important trade partners of Vietnam in Asia. Last year, the country’s exports of goods to both countries saw growth.

Exports to South Korea reached nearly US$ 15 billion
Last year, Vietnam’s exports of goods to South Korea increased sharply by nearly 30 per cent year – on – year to US$ 14.82 billion, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Telephones and components were leading the list of items exported by the country to South Korea last year with the export turnover of $ 3.97 billion, up by 45.5 per cent year – on - year and accounted for 26.8 per cent of the total. It was followed by textiles and garments with $ 2.64 million, up by 15.8 per cent; and then computers, electronics and components with $ 1.73 billion, up by 46 per cent year – on – year.

In 2017, the country’s exports of glass and products to South Korea rocketed by 631 per cent to nearly $ 130.25 million; while the exports of petroleum to South Korea reached $ 67.66 million, up by 210 per cent; coal - $ 21.67 million, up by 183 per cent; ores and minerals - $ 7.35 million, up by 80.6 per cent; ordinary metals - $ 172.72 million, up by 86.5 per cent; paper and products - $ 14.58 million, up by 90.7 per cent.

However, the country’s exports of fertilizer and pepper to South Korea decreased sharply by 36 per cent and 19 per cent, respectively compared with 2016. 
The bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and South Korea increased sharply and Vietnam is now the fourth biggest trade partner of South Korea.
 

Exports to India increased sharply in 2017
Vietnam exported US$ 3.7 billion worth of goods to India in 2017, increased by 39.76 per cent compared with 2016.
Telephones and components were leading the list of items exported by the country to India last year with the export turnover of $ 545.9 million, up by 43.98 per cent and accounted for 27.6 per cent of the total. It was followed by computers, electronics and components with $ 491.1 million, up by 37.71 per cent year – on – year; and metals and products with $ 468 million, up by 95.86 per cent.

Last year, the country’s exports of iron and steel to India increased by 10.5 times in quantity and 9.5 times in value; while the exports of coal to India increased by over 4 times in quantity as well as in value to 169,500 tons worth of $ 21.4 million. Meanwhile, the exports of rubber to India fell by 36.16 per cent in quantity and 22.29 per cent in value to 55,400 tons worth of $ 90.5 million.
