Import value and export achievements in 2017
Wednesday, January 31,2018AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s import-export value reached US$ 425.12 billion in 2017, up by 21 per cent or $ 73.74 billion compared with 2016, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
The import and export value of the FDI sector reached $ 278.56 billion in 2017, increased by 23.1 per cent or $ 52.25 billion compared with 2016.
Last year, the export turnover hit $ 214.02 billion, 21.2 per cent or $ 37.44 billion higher than last year. Meanwhile the total import revenue reached $ 211.1 billion, up by 21 per cent or $ 36.3 billion against last year.
Of the figure, the export turnover of the FDI sector reached $ 152.19 billion, up by 22.9 per cent or $ 28.31 billion year – on – year, whoke the import value reached $ 126.37 billion, up by 23.4 per cent or $ 23.94 billion.
The country got $ 2.91 billion of trade surplus last year. The FDI sector got $ 25.81 billion of trade surplus in 2017 while the domestic economic sector got $ 22.9 billion of trade deficit.
Last year, the U.S was leading the list of the country’s major export markets with the total export turnover of $ 41.5 billion, up by 8 per cent compared with 2016. It was followed by EU - $ 38.3 billion, up by 12.8 per cent; China - $ 35.3 billion, up by 60.6 per cent; ASEAN - $ 21.7 billion, up by 24.5 per cent; Japan - $ 16.8 billion, up by 14.2 per cent; South Korea - $ 15 billion, up by 31.1 per cent.
Leading export items
Telephones and components: Vietnam exported $ 45.27 billion worth of telephones and components in 2017, up by 31.9 per cent compared with the year of 2016.
The main export markets of telephones and components in the period were EU (28 countries) with over $ 11.96 billion, up by 6.4 per cent year – on – year; China with $ 7.15 billion, up by 8 times; South Korea - $ 3.97 billion, up by 45.4 per cent; the U.A.E - $ 3.89 billion, up by 1.6 per cent.
Textiles and garments: The country exported $ 26.04 billion worth of textiles and garments in the year of 2017, up by 9.3 per cent year – on - year.
The leading export markets of textiles and garments in 2017 were the U.S with $ 12.28 billion, up by 7.3 per cent year – on – year; EU (28 countries) - $ 3.79 billion, up by 6.3 per cent; Japan - $ 3.11 billion, up by 7.3 per cent; and South Korea - $ 2.64 billion, up by 15.8 per cent compared with the previous year.
Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam’s total exports of computers, electronics and components in 2017 hit $ 25.94 billion, increased sharply by 36.8 per cent compared with 2016.
The major export markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were China with $ 6.86 billion, up by 69 per cent year – on – year; the E.U - $ 4.61 billion, up by 20.5 per cent; the U.S - $ 3.44 billion, up by 18.7 per cent.
Leading import items
Computers, electronics and components: Vietnam spent over $ 37.71 billion for imports of computers, electronic products and components in 2017, up by 35.2 per cent compared with 2016.
The major import markets of computers, electronic products and components last year were South Korea with $ 15.33 billion, up by 76.7 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 7.06 billion, up by 19 per cent; and Taiwan - $ 3.94 billion, up by 24.6 per cent.
Machines, equipment, tools and spare parts: The country imported $ 33.67 billion worth of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in 2017, up by 18 per cent, year – on - year.
The main import markets of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in 2017 were China with $ 10.87 billion, up by 16.8 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – $ 8.63 billion, up by 46.6 per cent; Japan - $ 4.26 billion, up by 2.2 per cent over 2016.
Telephones and components: Vietnam imported $ 16.34 billion worth of telephones and components in 2017, up by 54.8 per cent compared with 2016.
The main import markets of telephones and components in the period were China with $ 8.75 billion, up by 42.4 per cent year – on – year; and South Korea - $ 6.18 billion, up by 72.6 per cent year – on - year.
