Farm, forestry, seafood exports: achievements in 2017 and expectation for 2018

With those achievements, the country Vietnam eyes to reach the export value of farm, forestry and seafood products of US$ 37-38 billion this year.
Achievements in 2017
In 2017, Vietnam’s exports of farm, forestry and seafood products were estimated at $36.37 billion, representing a year – on - year increase of 13 per cent.
Of which, the export value of major farm products was estimated to reach $ 18.96 billion, up by 15.7 per cent from 2016 ($ 15.1 billion), while the exports of major seafood products brought home $ 8.32 billion, up by 18 percent and major forestry products brought home $ 7.97 billion, up by 9.2 percent year – on - year.
The country’s exports of almost all farm, forestry and seafood products saw growth, both in quantity and in value.
The country earned about $ 2.66 billion worth of rice in 2017, increased by 22.4 per cent in quality and 23.2 per cent in value year-on-year.
Meanwhile, the exports of rubber reached 1.39 million tons worth of $ 2.26 billion, up by 11 per cent in quantity and 35.6 per cent in value compared to 2016.
The export value of tea reached 12,000 tons worth of $ 21 million in December and $ 229 million in the whole year of 2017, an increase of 5.6 percent year – on - year.
The exports of cassava and products were estimated at 3.95 million tons worth of $ 1.04 billion, up by 6.9 per cent in quantity and 4.2 per cent in value over the year of 2016.
The export of cashew nuts saw increases of 1.9 per cent in quantity to 353,000 tons and 23.8 per cent in value to reach $ 3.52 billion last year.
The earnings from exports of wood and furniture reached $ 7.6 billion in 2017, up by 9.1 per cent year – on – year
The country also witnessed an increase of 18 per cent in seafood exports to $ 8.32 billion last year.
Especially, the country raked in $ 3.45 billion from exporting vegetables and fruits, 40.5 percent higher than 2016.

Vietnam eyes to reach the export value of farm, forestry and seafood products of US$ 37-38 billion this year.
According to experts, the country’s exports of several major farm products may increase this year, while the forerstry industry is trying to earn $ 8.2 billion from exports in 2018.
This year, the country’s exports of wood and furniture to several leading export markets are expected to rise. The exports of wood and furniture to the U.S are expected to reach $ 2.8 billion; to Japan - $ 1.1 – 1.2 billion; to South Korea and EU - $ 700-800 million each.
Meanwhile, the exports of seafood are expected to rise 5.3-5.8 per cent to $ 8.5 billion this year.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country’s exports of farm, forestry and seafood products were estimated at $ 36.37 billion in 2017, up by $ 4.19 billion, equivalent to 13 per cent compared with the year 2016. Of the figure, the exports of major farm products were estimated at $ 18.96 billion, up by 15.7 per cent; seafood - $ 8.32 billion, up by 18 per cent; wood and furniture - $ 8 billion, up by 9.2 per cent year – on – year.
Last year, the exports of fruits and vegetables increased sharply by 40.5 per cent to $ 3.45 billion; rubber – up by 35.6 per cent to $ 2.26 billion; rice – up by 23.2 per cent to $ 2.66 billion; cashew nuts – up by 23.8 per cent to $ 3.52 billion; shrimp – up by 22.3 per cent to $ 3.9 billion; wood and furniture – up by 9.2 per cent to $ 7.6 billion.
In 2017, the country’s exports of shrimp; fruits and vegetables; cashew nuts; coffee and wood and furniture reached over $ 3 billion each. The competitive power and the position of Vietnamese farm products have been rising in the world market.
