Fruit and vegetable exports: sharply increased
Thursday, November 30,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of fruits and vegetables increased sharply year – on – year in the first ten months of this year. The country’s exports of fruit and vegetables are expected to reach $ 10 billion in 2022.
China was leading the country’s list of 23 major export markets of fruit and vegetables in the first ten months of this year with the export turnover of $ 2.17 billion, up by 52.7 per cent and accounted for 75.6 per cent of the total.
Vietnam’s exports of fruit and vegetables to the South East Asian countries reached $ 104.78 million, down by 5 per cent over the same period last year while the exports to EU reached $ 85.92 million, up by nearly 12 per cent.
However, the exports of fruit and vegetables to Cambodia, Indonesia and Britain decreased by 65 per cent; 63 per cent and 30 per cent, respectively year – on – year.
In the last 5 year, the country’s exports of fruit and vegetables increased ceaselessly from $ 900 million in 2012 to $ 2.45 billion in 2016 and $ 3 billion in 2017. The exports of fruit and vegetables are expected to reach $ 10 billion in 2022.
Notably, heavy rains in the month destroyed a lot of crops, almost doubling vegetable prices.
Cooler weather in central and northern regions also lowered fresh coconut prices in Ben Tre province from 80,000 VND per dozen to under 60,000 VND per dozen.
A shortage in fruits in the north also led to high prices of longan and dragon fruit, added the ministry.
US$ 1.25 billion worth of fruits and vegetables imported in 10 months
Thailand was the country’s biggest import market of fruits and vegetables in the first ten months of this year with the import value of $ 737 million, accounted for 59 per cent of the total market share.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country’s imports of fruits and vegetables from Thailand increased 2.4 folds year – on – year in the first ten months of this year; from India – up by over 2.1 folds and from South Korea – up by 78.8 per cent.
Vietnam’s exports of fruit and vegetables were estimated at $ 209 million in October and $ 2.84 billion in the first ten months of this year, up by 41.2 per cent over the same period of 2016. China, Japan, the U.S and South Korea were the country’s leading import markets of fruits and vegetables in the period with the market shares of 76 per cent; 3.6 per cent; 2.9 per cent; and 2.6 per cent, respectively.
