Imports of animal feed and materials fell slightly in 9 months

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported US$ 2.4 billion worth of animal feed and materials in the first nine months of this year, decreased by 2.37 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In September only, the country imported $ 254 million worth of animal feed and materials, up by 8.91 per cent month – on – month but down by 10.82 per cent over the same month of 2016.

In the first nine months of this year, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Italy rocketed by 864.12 per cent to over $ 54 million; from Canada – up by 530.52 per cent to over $ 55 million; from Chile – up by 88.41 per cent to over $ 8 million; and from India – up by 81.56 per cent to over $ 102 million.

Argentina was leading the list of the country’s import markets of animal feed and materials in the first nine months of this year with $ 1.2 billion, up by 4.67 per cent over the same period last year.

It was followed by Brazil with $ 104 million, down by 14.79 per cent; China – over $ 115 million, down by 46.2 per cent; the U.S - $ 187 million; India - $ 102 million; Indonesia - $ 79 million; Taiwan - $ 61 million; and Thailand - $ 57 million. 
 
Vietnam also imported materials for producing animal feed, including wheat, corn, soybean and oil and grease.

Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at nearly 3.6 million tons worth of $ 758 million, up by 3.64 per cent in quantity and 3.12 per cent in value over the same period last year.
The leading wheat import markets in the period were Australia, which accounted for 47 per cent of the total; Canada – 24 per cent; Brazil – 3 per cent; Russia – 2 per cent.

Soybean: The country’s imports of soybean totaled over 1.2 million tons worth of $ 550 million, up by 14 per cent in quantity and 16.32 per cent in value year – on – year.

Corn: The imports of corn totaled 5.6 million tons worth of $ 1.1 billion, up by 0.69 per cent in quantity and 1.09 per cent in value over the same period of 2016. Argentina and Brazil were leading the list of the country’s major corn import markets in the period with the market shares of 55 per cent and 20.8 per cent.
