Vietnam’s production of agriculture in 9 months of 2017

AsemconnectVietnam - As of mid-September, Vietnam cultivated 1561.1 thousand hectares of winter rice, equaling 98% of the same period last year, of which Northern provinces finished the cultivation with the area of 1132.9 thousand hectares, equaling 98.3%.

Southern provinces cultivated 428.2 thousand hectares, equaling 97.4%. Up to this time, early winter rice in the North is going into the firm and ripe stage and has been harvested nearly 61.7 thousand hectares with the estimated productivity of 5003 kilograms per hectare, up 40 kilograms per hectares from the same period in 2016.

The country’s cultivated summer-autumn rice area this year was 2105.9 thousand hectares, equivalent to the same crop last year. As of September 15, 2017, provinces in the South harvested 1731.9 thousand hectares of summer-autumn rice, accounting for 82.2% of the cultivated area and equaling 105% of the same period last year. According to localities’ report, the summer-autumn rice productivity of the whole country this year was estimated to reach 5470 kilograms per hectares, up 80 kilograms per hectare against the same crop in 2016; the production achieved 11.5 million tons, up 179 thousand tons.

As of above time, the harvested autumn-winter rice was 196 thousand hectares, equaling 34% of the cultivated area and equaling 104.8% of the identical period last year. If the weather from now to the end of crop is favorable, the estimated yield for the whole crop will reach 5190 kilograms per hectares, up 120 kilograms against the autumn-winter crop last year.As of mid-September, the country cultivated 1018.2 thousand hectares of maize, equaling 97.2% of the same period last; 111.2 thousand hectares of sweet potato, equaling to the same period last year; 181.7 thousand hectares of peanut, equaling 96.5%; 79.5 thousand hectares of soya, equaling 92.7%; 977.8 thousand hectares of vegetables, equaling 102.6%.

The planted area of perennial crops in nine months was estimated to be 3366.8 thousand hectares, up 1.5% from the same period last year, of which the industry crops reached 2204.2 thousand hectares, up 1.1%; fruit trees achieved 897.2 thousand hectares, up 3%; oil plants gained 166.8 thousand hectares, up 0.6%; spicy plants, medicinal plants reached 58.1 thousand hectares, down 1.2%; other perennial plants gained 40.4 thousand hectares, up 1.3%. Production of some perennial industrial crops in nine months increased over the same period last year: Pepper was estimated to move up by 9%; rubber grew by 4.4%; coffee jumped up by 1.8%; tea climbed by 1%; only cashew yield fell by 28% due to the appearance of fog at the time of flowering, so many areas are completely lost. Output of some fruit trees was fairly good due to the good consumption market: Dragon fruit in nine months was estimated to increase by 15% from the same period last year; orange moved up by 12%; Mango went up by 10.7%; banana and lemon had the same growth rate of 8.7%; pomelo was up 6.6%; tangerine increased by 6%. Only the yield of lichee went down by 23.3% compared to the similar period in 2016; longan reduced by 2.9% due to the unfavourable weather in the flowering period.

As of mid-September, the country’s flock of buffaloes reduced by 0.5% from the similar period in 2016; flock of oxen raised by 2.7%; flock of poultry went up by 5.3%. The output of  live-weight buffalo meat for slaughter in nine months was estimated to reach 65.8 thousand tons, up 0.9% against the identical period last year; output of live-weight beef achieved 246.7 thousand tons, up 4.9%; production of poultry gained 772.7 thousand tons, up 6.1%; egg attained 7562.7 million pieces, up 7.2%.  The country’s flock of pigs as of mid-September went down by 4.2% from the same period last year. The production of pork living-weight in nine months gained an estimate of 2731.9 thousand tons, increasing by 2% against the similar period last year, of which it reached 521.9 thousand tons in the third quarter, down 2.3%.
