APEC 2017 enables Vietnam, Mexico to promote ties
Tuesday, June 27,2017AsemconnectVietnam - The upcoming APEC Summit 2017, which is slated for the central city of Da Nang in November with the participation of Mexican President Enrique Mena Nieto, is expected to help strengthen all-round cooperation between Vietnam and Mexico, stated Ambassador of Vietnam to Mexico Le Linh Lan.
The diplomat highlighted the sound friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Mexico since the two countries set up their diplomatic ties on September 19, 1975, as well as the collaboration potential between the two sides, especially in manufacturing, auto industry, agriculture and tourism.
Mexico is currently the third largest trade partner of Vietnam in the Latin American region, with two-way trade rising about 30 percent per year and hitting 5 billion USD in 2016, noted Lan.
Meanwhile, Mexican Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade Juan Carlos Baker lauded Vietnam’s efforts in preparations for APEC 2017.
He underlined similarities between the two countries in culture, history, and geography, adding that the two economies are both open ones and can supplement each other. This is a good condition for the two sides to tap their trade cooperation potential.
At the conference, many Mexican officials also underscored the significance of APEC 2017 to the promotion of trade facilitation and global integration amidst the changing world with signs of protectionism.
Participants also expressed belief at the growth of the Vietnam-Mexico partnership in all fields, especially economy, trade and investment.
