Major commodities imported in first 4 months of 2017

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s imports of top ten leading items reached US$ 41.96 billion in the first four months of this year, accounted for 65.6 per cent of the total and increased by 24 per cent over the same period last year.

Machine, equipment and spare parts ranked first with the import value of $ 11.51 billion, up by 39.3 per cent year – on – year.
The major commodities imported by the country in April and the first 4 months of 2017 included:
Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts: The country imported $ 3.44 billion worth of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts  in April and $ 11.5 billion in the first 4 months of this year, up by 39.3 per cent year – on - year.
The main import markets of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts in the first 5 months of this year were South Korea with $ 3.79 billion, up by 135 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 3.4 billion, up by 31 per cent; Japan - $ 1.39 billion, up by 7.4 per cent; and Taiwan - $ 408 million, down by 3.4 per cent over the same period of 2016.
Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam spent over $ 2.85 billion for import of computers, electronic products and components in April and $ 10.44 billion in the first 4 months of this year, up by 24.5 per cent compared with the same months of 2016.
The major import markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were South Korea with $ 3.84 billion, up by 39.2 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 2.09 billion, up by 26.1 per cent; and Taiwan - $ 1.06 billion, up by 15.4 per cent.
Cell phones and accessories: Vietnam imported over $ 1.08 billion worth of cell phones and accessories in April and $ 4.02 billion in the first 4 months of this year, up by 23.2 per cent compared with the same months of 2016.
The main import markets of cell phones and accessories in the period were China with $ 2.13 billion, up by 6.3 per cent year – on – year; and South Korea - $ 1.43 billion, up by 31.5 per cent.
Iron and steel of all kinds: The country imported 1.44 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of $ 866 million in April and 5.64 million tons worth of $ 3.23 billion in the first 4 months of this year, down by 8.3 per cent in quantity but up by 40.9 per cent in value year – on - year.
In the first 4 months of this year, the country imported 2.76 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of $ 1.53 billion from China, down by 16.8 per cent in quantity but up by 33.5 per cent in value over the same period last year. The figure from Japan was 747,000 tons worth of $ 447 million; and from South Korea – 535,000 tons worth of $ 383 million.  
Petroleum of all kinds: The import of petroleum of all kinds totaled 3.98 million tons worth of nearly $ 2.15 billion in the first 4 months of this year, down by 3.2 per cent in quantity but up by 41.8 per cent in value over the same period last year.
The country’s top import markets of petroleum of all kinds in the first 4 months of this year were Singapore with 1.65 million tons, up by 9.5 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – 986,000 tons, up by 2 times; Malaysia – 770,000 tons, down by 24.1 per cent; and China – 344,000 tons, down by 16 per cent.
Coal: The import of coal totaled 1.02 million tons worth of $ 88.2 million in April and 4.63 million tons valued at $ 498 million in the first 4 months of this year, down by 0.2 per cent in quantity but up by 71.3 per cent in value compared with the same period last year.
The country’s top import markets of coal in the first 4 months of this year were Australia with nearly 1.4 million tons, down by 3.8 per cent year – on – year; Indonesia – 1.6 million tons, up by 93.4 per cent; Russia – 762,000 tons, down by 45.9 per cent over the same period last year.
CBU automobile: Vietnam imported 6,960 CBU automobile in April. The figure brought the country’s total import of CBU automobile in the first 4 months of this year to nearly 33,400 units, up by 15.6 per cent year – on – year.
Thailand was the country’s biggest CBU automobile import market of Vietnam in the first 4 months of this year with 12,000 units worth of $ 219 million, up by 18.7 per cent in quantity and 19.9 per cent in value over the same period last year. It was followed by Indonesia with nearly $ 6,000 units worth of $ 102 million, up by 5.3 folds in quantity and 7.6 folds in value; and India – nearly 5,000 units worth of $ 22 million, up by 1.1 folds in quantity but down by 3.5 per cent in value.
