Exports of coffee and rubber increased in first quarter
Thursday, March 30,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of coffee and rubber increased in the first quarter of this year, according to the report of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In the first quarter of this year, Vietnam earned US$ 7.6 billion from exports of farm, forestry and seafood products, increased by nearly 8 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Rubber was leading the list of farm, forestry and seafood products exported in the first quarter of this year with 249,000 tons worth of $ 510 million, up by nearly 2 per cent in quantity and nearly 91 per cent in value over the same period of 2016.
It was followed by coffee with 449,000 tons worth of $ 1 billion, down by 5.4 per cent in quantity and nearly 26 per cent in value year – on – year.
In the first quarter of this year, the country’s export of cashew nuts reached 53,000 tons worth of $ 487 million, down by nearly 9 per cent in quantity but up by over 10 per cent over the same quarter of 2016.
Meanwhile, the exports of wood and furniture were estimated at $ 1.7 billion, up by 13 per cent year – on – year and the exports of seafood reached $ 1.5 billion, up by 4 per cent.
In the first quarter of this year, the country exported only 1.28 million tons of rice worth of $ 566 million, down by over 18 per cent in quantity and over 17 per cent in value over the same period of 2016.
The exports of pepper totaled 49,000 tons worth of $ 317 million in the first quarter, up by nearly 13 per cent in quantity but down by 13.4 per cent in value over the same period las tyear.
According to the statistics figures of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the average pepper export price in the first two months of this year reached $ 6,924 per ton, down by over 22 per cent year – on – year.
