Farm, forestry and seafood exports in first two months
Thursday, March 30,2017AsemconnectVietnam - In the first two months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of farm, forestry and seafood products slightly increased compared with the same period last year to US$ 4.3 billion.
In the period, the country’s exports of farm and forestry products increased, but the exports of seafood decreased.
Farm, forestry and seafood exports increased slightly
Vietnam’s exports offarm, forestry and seafood products totaled US$ 4.3 billion in the first 2 months of this year, increased slightly by 1.4 per cent over the same period last year.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam’s exports of farm, forestry and seafood products were estimated at $ 1.9 billion in February and $ 4.3 billion in the first 2 months of this year, slightly increased by 1.4 per cent year – on – year.
Of the figure, the exports of major farm products were estimated at $ 2.4 billion, up by 8.8 per cent; seafood products - $ 844 million, down by 3.1 per cent; and forestry products - $ 993 million, up by 0.3 per cent.
The exports of rubber increased by 25.4 per cent in quantity and 2.4 folds in value compared with the same period last year with 99,000 tons worth of $ 211 million in February and 193,000 tons worth of $ 392 million in the first 2 months.
The exports of wood and furniture reached $ 335 million in February and $ 944 million in the first 2 months.
Meanwhile, the exports of coffee were estimated at 132,000 tons worth of $ 299 million in February and 273,000 tons worth of $ 616 million in the first 2 months.
However, the country’s exports of rice, tea, seafood, cashew nuts and pepper decreased sharply compared with the same period of 2016.
The exports of rice still fell, both in quantity and in value.
The country’s exports of rice were estimated at 402,705 tons worth of US$ 170.8 million in February and 738,153 tons worth of $ 314.2 million in the first two months of this year, down by 23.4 per cent in quantity and 24.7 per cent in value over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
China was still leading the list of the country’s major rice export markets in the first two months of this year with 242,361 tons worth of $ 112.8 million, up by 51 per cent in quantity and 57.6 per cent in value over the same period last year; and accounted for 35 per cent of the total.
It was followed by the Philippines with 206,589 tons worth of $ 78 million, up by 54 per cent in quantity and 36 per cent in value year – on – year and accounted for 28 per cent of the total.
The other big markets were Ivory Coast with 39,989 tons worth of $ 17.4 million; Malaysia – 30,248 tons worth of $ 11.8 million; Ghana – 19,520 tons worth of $ 9.7 million; and Singapore – 10,575 tons worth of $ 5.2 million.
Seafood exports totaled $ 915.1 million first 2 months
Vietnam’s exports of seafood in the first 2 months of this year increased by nearly 4 per cent over the same period last year.
According to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s exports of seafood totaled US$ 915.1 million in the first 2 months of this year, increased by nearly 4 per cent over the same period last year.
The U.S was leading the list of 45 big seafood export markets of Vietnam in the period with the export turnover of $ 152.8 million, accounted for 16.7 per cent of the total and decreased by nearly 20 per cent over the same period last year.
Japan ranked second with $ 149.6 million, up by 28 per cent; and then China - $ 87.8 million, up by 14.3 per cent; and South Korea - $ 82.1 million, up by 13 per cent.
In the first two months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of seafood to Israel increased sharply by 158 per cent year – on – year to $ 11.2 million; to Denmark – up by 118 per cent to $ 5.6 million; to Brazil – up by 68 per cent to $ 23.5 million; and to the Netherlands – up by 55 per cent to $ 26.1 million.
However, the country’s exports of seafood to Turkey, Iraq, Egypt and Sweden decreased by 51 per cent; 72 per cent; 48 per cent and 43 per cent, respectively over the same period last year.
