AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam’s exports of rice were estimated at 337,235 tons worth of US$ 144.2 million in January of this year, down by 31 per cent in quantity and 33 per cent in value over the same month of 2016, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The figure was down by 14 per cent in quantity and 18 per cent in value over the previous month.

The leading rice export market of Vietnam in 2016 was China with 88,933 tons worth of $ 41.8 million, up by 44 per cent in quantity, but up by 54 per cent in value year – on – year and accounted for 29 per cent of the total. However, the figure was down by 33 per cent in quantity and 31 per cent in value over the previous month.

The Philippines followed with 87,131 tons worth of $ 33.1 million, increased sharply by 99 per cent in quantity and 88 per cent in value compared with the previous month, and by 40 per cent in quantity and 23 per cent in value over the same month of last year.

Especially, the exports of rice to the Ivory Coast rocketed by 2,276 per cent in quantity and 1,794 per cent in value compared with the previous month to 39,308 tons worth of over $ 17 million.

The exports of rice to Malaysia in January decreased to 14,298 tons worthof $ 5.6 million.
