AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam exported US$ 233.5 million worth of fruit and vegetables in January of this year, down by 7.9 per cent over the previous month but up by 17 per cent over the same month of last year, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The country’s total exports of fruit and vegetables are expected to reach over $ 3 billion this year.

The country exported fruit and vegetables to 22 countries and territories in the world, leading by China with $ 174.2 million, accounted for 74.6 per cent of the total.

It was followed by the U.S - $ 8.2 million, up by 5.2 per cent year – on – year; Japan – over $ 6 million, up by 28.5 per cent; Thailand - $ 5.7 million, up by 7.5 per cent; South Korea - $ 5.6 million, down by 2.4 per cent; and Malaysia - $ 4.5 million, up by 51.9 per cent.

In January, the country’s exports of fruit and vegetables to the traditional markets saw positive growth. Especially, the exports to Russia increased sharply by 115 per cent year –on – year to $ 3.15 million.

The exports to Laos also increased sharply by 111 per cent; to the U.A.E – up by 69 per cent; to Malaysia – up by 52 per cent; to Singapore – up by 42.4 per cent; to France – up by 35 per cent.

However, the country’s exports of fruit and vegetables to Cambodia decreased sharply by 88 per cent to $ 66,426; and to Italy, Indonesia and Ukraine fell by 49.7 per cent; 44 per cent and 41 per cent, respectively over the same month of last year.
