Imports and exports in January of 2017

AsemconnectVietnam - In January of this year, Vietnam’s exports fell sharply over the same month of last year. The imports of goods also fell compared with the previous month, but increased slightly over the same months of 2016.

The following are 5 leading items exported and imported by Vietnam last year

Telephones and accessories
: Vietnam exported $ 2.33 billion worth of telephones and accessories in January of this year, down by 13.4 per cent compared with December of 2016 and up by 2.6 per cent over the same month of last year.

The main export markets of telephones and accessories in the period were South Korea with $ 230 million, up by 73.4 per cent year – on – year; the U.A.E with $ 228 million, down by 37.4 per cent.

Textiles and garments: The country exported nearly $ 2.16 billion worth of textiles and garments in January of this year, up by 5.7 per cent year – on – year and down by 6.1 per cent over the previous month.

The leading export markets of textiles and garments last year were the U.S with nearly $ 1.08 billion, up by 5.8 per cent year – on – year; Japan - $ 253 million, up by 1.8 per cent; and South Korea - $ 215 million, up by 18.1 per cent.

Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam earned $ 1.5 billion from export of computers, electronic products and components in January of this year, up by 18.7 per cent compared with the same period last year but down by 19.3 per cent over the previous month.

The major export markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were China with $ 365 million, up by 1.12 times year – on – year; the EU (28 countries) - $ 300 million, down by 17.7 per cent; and the U.S - $ 163 million, down by 9.7 per cent.

Footwear of all kinds: The export of footwear of all kinds totaled $ 1.17 billion in January of this year, down by 12.5 per cent month – on – month and by 4.8 per cent year – on – year.

The country’s top export markets of footwear of all kinds in 2016 were the EU (28 countries) with $ 407 million, down by 5.9 per cent year – on – year; the U.S with the total export turnover of $ 379 million, down by 3.3 per cent; and China - $ 77 million, down by 6.9 per cent.

Machines, equipment and spare parts: Vietnam exported $ 977 million worth of machines, equipment and spare parts in January of this year, up by 34.2 per cent year – on – year.

The leading export markets of machines, equipment and spare parts in January of this year were the U.S with $ 193 million, up by 13.7 per cent; China - $ 129 million, up by 1.3 times and Japan - $ 123 million, up by 0.8 per cent.

5 top items imported in January of 2017

Machines, equipment and spare parts: The country imported $ 2.34 billion worth of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts  in January of this year, up by 9.1 per cent year – on - year.

Of the figure, the import value of FDI enterprises was $ 1.37 billion, up by 24.8 per cent while the import value of the domestic economic sector was nearly $ 966 million, down by 9.7 per cent.       

The main import markets of machines, equipment, tools and spare parts in January were China with $ 866 million, up by 10.4 per cent year – on – year; South Korea –  $ 615 million, up by 64 per cent; Japan - $ 241 million, down by 28.1 per cent; and EU - $ 216 million, down by 5.04 per cent.

Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam spent $ 2.13 billion for import of computers, electronic products and components in January of this year, up by 7.6 per cent compared with the same month of 2016. Of the figure, the FDI sector accounted for $ 1.94 billion.

The major import markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were South Korea with $ 681 million, up by 20.1 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 482 million, up by 8 per cent; and Taiwan – $ 230 million, up by 4.9 per cent.

Telephones and accessories: Vietnam imported $ 834 million worth of telephones and accessories in January of this year, up by 11.9 per cent compared with the same month of 2016.

The main import markets of cell phones and accessories in the period were China with $ 493 billion, down by 2.7 per cent year – on – year; and South Korea - $ 250 million, up by 24.5 per cent.

Iron and steel of all kinds: The country imported 1.23 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of over $ 664 million in January of this year, down by 14.9 per cent in quantity and up by 21.5 per cent in value year – on - year.

In January, the country imported 679,000n tons of iron and steel of all kinds from China, down by 23.1 per cent year – on - year; over 175,000 tons from South Korea, up by 27.6 per cent.   

Cloth of all kinds: The import of cloth of all kinds totaled $ 662 million in January of this year, down by 15.4 per cent over the same period last year.

The country’s top import markets of cloth of all kinds in January were China with $ 374 million, down by 12.7 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – $ 121 million, down by 14.8 per cent; and Taiwan – $ 84 million, down by 23.5 per cent.
