Exports of farm products in 2016 and January of 2017

AsemconnectVietnam - Last year, Vietnam’s exports of several farm products like cashew nuts, coffee and tea saw growth, except for rice.

But in the first month of this year, the exports of almost all farm products decreased.
Vietnam earned US$ 2.8 billion from cashew exports in 2016
In 2016, Vietnam exported 346,844 tons of cashew nuts worth of US$ 2.8 billion, up by 5.7 per cent in quantity and 18.3 per cent in value over the year of 2015, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The leading cashew export markets of Vietnam in 2016 were the U.S with $ 970 million, up by 17.6 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 422.6 million, up by 19.8 per cent; the Netherlands - $ 382.7 million, up by 24 per cent; the U.K - $ 118.8 million, up by 17 per cent; Australia - $ 120.8 million, up by 3.7 per cent; Germany - $ 103.4 million, up by 50 per cent.

Last year, the country’s exports of cashew nuts to Pakistan increased sharply by 93 per cent; to Ukraine – up by 80.4 per cent; to India – up by 71.7 per cent; to Israel – up by 49.4 per cent; and to Germany – up by 50 per cent.

 

Exports of coffee increased sharply, both in quantity and in value

 

Vietnam exported 1.78 million tons of coffee worth of US$ 3.34 billion in 2016, increased sharply by 32.8 per cent in quantity and 24.7 per cent in value over the year of 2015, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Germany and the U.S were still the country’s biggest coffee export markets last year. The country’s exports of coffee to Germany were 275,679 tons worth of $ 493.8 million while the exports to the U.S reached 237,195 tons worth of nearly $ 450 million. 

Last year, the country’s exports of coffee to Mexico increased sharply by 194 per cent; to the Philippines – up by 63.6 per cent; to Algeria – up by 64.5 per cent; to India – up by 63 per cent; to South Africa – up by 60 per cent; to Switzerland – up by 52 per cent; to China – up by 39.3 per cent; to the U.S – up by 43.6 per cent; and to Germany – up by 37.6 per cent.

Exports of tea increased, Pakistan was leading the list of tea export markets

Last year, Vietnam’s exports of tea increased by 5.1 per cent in quantity and 2.1 per cent in value compared with 2015 to 130,900 tons worth of US$ 217.2 million, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

 Pakistan was still leading the list of the country’s total tea exports in 2016 with 38,800 tons worth of $ 78.5 million, up by 7.02 per cent in quantity but down by 3.95 per cent in value over 2015 and accounted for 29.6 per cent of the total.

The following export markets were Russia – 16,300 tons worth of $ 22.8 million, up by 9.54 per cent in quantity and 2.12 per cent in value; and Indonesia – 15,500 tons worth of $ 13.4 million, up by 59.35 per cent in quantity and 46.16 per cent in value.

Last year, the country’s exports of tea to India reached 2,400 tons worth of $ 2.8 million, rocketed by 1,413.94 per cent in quantity and 1,019.26 per cent in value year – on – year while the exports to Kuwait decreased sharply by 95.43 per cent in quantity and 93.95 per cent in value to 57 tons worth of $ 107,200.

 

Rice exports fell, China was leading the list of rice export markets

 

Vietnam’s exports of rice were estimated at 4.84 million tons worth of US$ 2.17 billion in 2016, down by 26.6 per cent in quantity and 22.5 per cent in value over the year of 2015, showed the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

The exports of rice in January of this year also decreased by 32 per cent in quantity and 35.1 per cent in value over the same period of 2016.

The leading rice export market of Vietnam in 2016 was China with 1.74 million tons worth of $ 782.3 million, down by 17.8 per cent in quantity, 9 per cent in value year – on – year and accounted for 36 per cent of the total.

The other big markets were Ghana – 503,673 tons worth of $ 248.9 million; the Philippines – 395,802 tons worth of $ 167.4 million; Indonesia – 324,388 tons worth of $ 128.6 million.

Last year, the country’s exports of rice to Iraq rocketed by 1,810 per cent in quantity and 7,625 per cent in value compared with 2016 to 16,069 tons worth of $ 6.8 million while the exports to Angola were up by 189 per cent in quantity and 132 per cent in value; to Brunei – up by 115 per cent in quantity and 86 per cent in value.

 

Farm exports fell slightly by 1.7% in January of 2017

 

In the first month of 2017, the exports of farm, forestry and seafood products saw decrease.

Vietnam’s exports main farm products were estimated at $ 1.2 billion, down by 1.7 per cent year – on – year; seafood - $ 518 million, down by 5 per cent; and forestry products - $ 652 million, up by 2.1 per cent.

In January of this year, the country’s exports of rice were estimated at 325,000 tons worth of $ 136 million, down by 32 per cent in quantity and 35.1 per cent in value over the same month of last year. The average rice export price was at $ 449 per ton in 2016, up by 6.2 per cent compared with 2015.

China was leading the list of the country’s main rice export markets in 2016 with 36 per cent of the total market share, equivalent to 1.74 million tons, down by 17.5 per cent compared with 2015.

The exports of coffee were estimated at 127,000 tons worth of $ 287 million, in January, down by 26.5 per cent in quantity and by 3.6 per cent in value over the same month of 2016

The exports of tea, cashew nuts, pepper, cassava and products also fell sharply over the same month of last year. The exports of tea were estimated at 11,000 tons worth of $ 16 million in January, down by 3.6 per cent in quantity and 8.6 per cent in value year – on – year.

In January, the exports of cashew nuts fell by over 20 per cent in quantity and 4.4 per cent in value to $ 176 million while the exports of pepper was estimated at 8,000 tons worth of $ 56 million, down by 18.3 per cent in quantity and 37 per cent in value year – on – year.

The exports of rubber were estimated at 102,000 tons worth of $ 193 million, up by 10.5 per cent in quantity and 84.8 per cent in value over the same month of 2016.
