Leading items exported in January of 2017
Tuesday, February 28,2017AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam exported US$ 14.34 billion worth of goods in January of this year; fell sharply over the same month of 2016.
The export of top ten export items reached $ 10.44 billion, accounted for 72.8 per cent of the total.
Telephones and accessories: Vietnam exported $ 2.33 billion worth of telephones and accessories in January of this year, down by 13.4 per cent compared with December of 2016 and up by 2.6 per cent over the same month of last year.
The main export markets of telephones and accessories in the period were South Korea with $ 230 million, up by 73.4 per cent year – on – year; the U.A.E with $ 228 million, down by 37.4 per cent.
Textiles and garments: The country exported nearly $ 2.16 billion worth of textiles and garments in January of this year, up by 5.7 per cent year – on – year and down by 6.1 per cent over the previous month.
The leading export markets of textiles and garments last year were the U.S with nearly $ 1.08 billion, up by 5.8 per cent year – on – year; Japan - $ 253 million, up by 1.8 per cent; and South Korea - $ 215 million, up by 18.1 per cent.
Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam earned $ 1.5 billion from export of computers, electronic products and components in January of this year, up by 18.7 per cent compared with the same period last year but down by 19.3 per cent over the previous month.
The major export markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were China with $ 365 million, up by 1.12 times year – on – year; the EU (28 countries) - $ 300 million, down by 17.7 per cent; and the U.S - $ 163 million, down by 9.7 per cent.
Footwear of all kinds: The export of footwear of all kinds totaled $ 1.17 billion in January of this year, down by 12.5 per cent month – on – month and by 4.8 per cent year – on – year.
The country’s top export markets of footwear of all kinds in 2016 were the EU (28 countries) with $ 407 million, down by 5.9 per cent year – on – year; the U.S with the total export turnover of $ 379 million, down by 3.3 per cent; and China - $ 77 million, down by 6.9 per cent.
Machines, equipment and spare parts: Vietnam exported $ 977 million worth of machines, equipment and spare parts in January of this year, up by 34.2 per cent year – on – year.
The leading export markets of machines, equipment and spare parts in January of this year were the U.S with $ 193 million, up by 13.7 per cent; China - $ 129 million, up by 1.3 times and Japan - $ 123 million, up by 0.8 per cent.
Wood and furniture: The country’s export of wood and furniture hit $ 609 million in January of this year, down by 1.5 per cent year – on - year.
In January, the country’s export of wood and furniture to the U.S reached $ 246 million, down by 6.6 per cent; to China – $ 80 million, up by 43 per cent; and to Japan – nearly $ 80 million, up by 43.8 per cent year – on - year.
Farm products: (fruit and vegetables, cashew nuts, coffee, tea, pepper, rice, cassava and products, rubber): The country’s exports of farm products reached nearly $ 1.18 billion in January of this year, down by 4.5 per cent year – on – year. Of which:
- The exports of fruit and vegetables reached $ 233 million, up by 16.2 per cent year – on – year. Vietnam’s fruit and vegetables were exported mainly to China - $ 174 million, up by 14.9 per cent compared with the same period last year; the U.S - $ 8 million, up by 5.1 per cent; and Japan - $ 6 million, up by 26.4 per cent.
- The exports of coffee in January reached 140,000 tons worth of $ 317 million, down by 20.5 per cent in quantity but up by 3.5 per cent in value year – on –year. Vietnam exported coffee mostly to the EU (28 countries) with $ 152 million, up by 8.7 per cent; and the U.S - $ 47 million, up by 20.3 per cent.
- The exports of rubber totaled 94,000 tons worth of $ 181 million in January of this year, up by 1.7 per cent in quantity and 73.4 per cent in value over the same period last year. The main rubber export markets in the month were China with $ 127 million, up by 131.4 per cent year – on – year; and Malaysia - $ 8 million, up by 39 per cent.
In January, the country’s exports of several items fell compared with the same month of last year. Those items were:
- Cashew nuts: 18,000 tons worth of $ 164,000, down by 27.8 per cent in quantity and 12.6 per cent in value;
- Tea: over 9,000 tons worth of $ 13 million, down by 15.4 per cent in quantity and 20 per cent in value;
- Pepper: 8,000 tons worth of $ 62 million, down by 13.4 per cent in quantity and 31 per cent in value;
- Rice: 337,000 tons worth of $ 144 million, down by 31.4 per cent in quantity and 33.8 per cent in value
- Cassava and products: 243,000 tons worth of $ 60 million, down by 38.3 per cent in quantity and 43.7 per cent in value.
