Leading export and import items of Vietnam in first quarter of 2016
Friday, April 29,2016AsemconnectVietnam - In the first 3 months of this year, Vietanam’s total trade revenue hit $ 79.17 billion, up by 1.1 per cent over the same period last year.
The export turnover in the first 3 months of this year was at $ 38.77 billion, up by 6.6 per cent year – on – year; and the import value was at $ 37.4 billion, down by 4 per cent.
5 leading commodities exported by the country in March and the first 3 months of 2015:
Cell phones and accessories: Vietnam exported $ 3.57 billion worth of cell phones and accessories in March and $ 8.27 billion in the first 3 months of this year, up by 46.2 per cent and 24.2 per cent, respectively compared with the same months of 2015.
The main export markets of cell phones and accessories in the period were U.A.E with over $ 1.12 billion, up by 17.3 per cent year – on – year; the U.S with $ 1.09 billion, up by 107 per cent; South Korea - $ 540 million, up by over 3 folds; and Germany - $ 450 million, up by over 4.7 folds.
Textiles and garments: The country exported $ 5.12 billion worth of textiles and garments in the first 3 months of this year, up by 6.5 per cent year – on - year.
The leading export markets of textiles and garments in the first 3 months of this year were the U.S with $ 2.53 billion, up by 7.4 per cent year – on – year; EU - $ 692 million, up by 7.3 per cent; Japan - $ 640 million, up by 1.1 per cent; and South Korea - $ 531 million, up by 13.5 per cent.
Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam earned $ 1.42 billion from export of computers, electronic products and components in March, up by 36.3 per cent month – on – month. The figure of the first 3 months of this year was $ 3.73 billion, up by 4.9 per cent year – on – year.
The major export markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were the EU with $ 921 million, up by 21 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 612 million, up by 10.6 per cent; South Korea - $ 275 million, up by 2 folds; and Japan - $ 133 million, up by 15.2 per cent. However, the export to the U.S and Hong Kong decreased by 8.2 per cent and 14 per cent to $ 585 million and $ 357 million, respectively.
Footwear of all kinds: The export of footwear of all kinds totaled $ 918 million in March and $ 2.79 billion in the first 3 months of this year, up by 43.1 per cent and 9.6 per cent, respectively year – on - year.
The country’s top export markets of footwear of all kinds in the first 3 months of this year were the U.S and EU with the export turnover of $ 946 million and $ 899 million, up by 11.6 per cent and 8.6 per cent, respectively over the same period last year.
Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts: : The country earned nearly $ 824 million from export of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts in March and $ 2.11 billion in the first 3 months of this year, up by 47.1 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively over the same period last year.
The main export markets of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts in the first 3 months of this year were the U.S with over $ 474 billion, up by 43.6 per cent year – on – year; Japan – nearly $ 350 million, up by 4.3 per cent; China – over $ 198 million, up by 47.2 per cent over the same period of 2015.

Computers, electronic products and components: Vietnam spent $ 2.46 billion for import of computers, electronic products and components in March and $ 6.35 billion in the first 3 months of this year.
The major import markets of computers, electronic products and components in the period were South Korea with nearly $ 2.1 billion, up by 42.2 per cent year – on – year; China - $ 1.23 billion, up by 3.9 per cent; Taiwan - $ 715 million, up by 33.5 per cent; Japan - $ 566 million, up by 4 per cent.
Machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts: : The country imported nearly $ 2.3 billion worth of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts in March and $ 5.97 billion in the first 3 months of this year, down by 13.9 per cent year – on - year.
The main import markets of machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts in the first 3 months of this year were China with $ 1.9 billion, down by 12.9 per cent year – on – year; South Korea – $ 1.14 billion, down by 22.4 per cent; Japan - $ 915 million, down by 32 per cent; and Taiwan - $ 321 million, down by 5.7 per cent over the same period of 2015.
Textile, garment, leather and footwear of all kinds materials: The country’s import of textile, garment, leather and footwear of all kinds materials reached $ 1.59 billion in March and over $ 4 billion in the first 3 months of this year, up by 2.5 per cent over the same period last year.
The major import markets of textile, garment, leather and footwear materials in the first 3 months of this year were China with the import value of $ 1.62 billion, up by 6.9 per cent; South Korea - $ 595 million, down by 0.7 per cent; Taiwan - $ 521 million, down by 2.9 per cent year – on – year.
Cell phones and accessories: Vietnam imported $ 884.7 million worth of cell phones and accessories in March and $ 2.4 billion in the first 3 months of this year, down by 7.4 per cent compared with the same months of 2015.
The main import markets of cell phones and accessories in the period were China with $ 1.5 billion, down by 20.7 per cent year – on – year; and South Korea - nearly $ 771 million, up by 39.9 per cent.
Iron and steel of all kinds: The country imported 1.94 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds worth of $ 697 million in March, up by 43.4 per cent in quantity and 47.1 per cent in value over the previous month. In the first 3 months of this year, the country exported 4.72 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds, up by 64.5 per cent year – on - year.
In the first 3 months of this year, the country imported 2.9 million tons of iron and steel of all kinds from China, up by 70.5 per cent; 743,300 tons from Japan, up by 50.8 per cent; and 429,000 tons from South Korea, up by 10.4 per cent over the same period last year.
