Vietnam – India trade exchange hit US$ 1.3 billion in 1st quarter
Friday, May 22,2015AsemconnectVietnam - The bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and India hit US$ 1.3 billion in the first three months of this year, slightly decreased by 0.05 per cent over the same period last year, according to the preliminary statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.
Of the figure, Vietnam exported $ 644.4 million worth of goods to India, up by 29.79 per cent and imported $ 702.3 million worth of goods from India, down by 17.46 per cent over the same quarter of 2014. So in the first three months of this year, Vietnam got $ 57.8 million of deficit in trade with India.
The major commodities exported by the country to India included cell phones and accessories; computers, electronic products and components; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts; metals; chemicals; rubber, etc. Cell phones and accessories were leading in the list of items exported to India in the first three months of this year, accounted for 40 per cent of the total.
The potential items for exporting to India include cashew nuts; ceramic and porcelain products; iron and steel products; plastics.

Vietnam imported from India mostly cotton; seafood; machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts, leading by cotton with 67,100 tons valued at $ 102.5 million, accounted for 28 per cent of the total and increased by 10.8 per cent in quantity and down by 10.17 per cent in value over the same period of 2014.
The import of seafood was at $ 80.9 million, down by 13.83 per cent year – on – year.
