AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported 1,131,057 tons of wheat valued at US$ 363,417,526 in the first seven months of this year, up by 30.98 per cent in volume and 17.25 per cent in value over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures.

In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam imported wheat from 5 markets included Australia, the U.S, Canada, India and Austria, leading by Australia with 907,389 tons worth of $ 291,888,621, increased by 34.43 per cent in volume and 20.31 per cent in value year – on – year and accounted for 80.3 per cent of the total.

The U.S ranked second with 102,644 tons valued at $ 34,344,233, up by 75.94 per cent in volume and 57 per cent in value.

The import of wheat from Canada and India saw year – on – year decrease. The import from Canada decreased by 39.97 per cent in volume and 46.59 per cent in value while the import from India decreased by 39.81 per cent in volume and 43.76 per cent in value. 

The world wheat output in 2014/15 crop year is expected to reach 705.17 million tons, fell sharply by 8.83 million tons compared with the previous crop as unfavorable weather may effect the winter crop. The world consumption of wheat is expected at 699.92 million tons this year.
