In December alone, the imports of coal reached 4.3 million tons, equivalent to 322.75 million USD, up by 40.6 per cent in volume and 35.6 per cent in turnover compared to November of 2019. In comparison with December of 2018, it also increased sharply by 51.5 per cent in volume and 10.9 per cent in value.

Although the imports of coal increased sharply in volume and in value, the import price decreased by 22.7 per cent compared to 2018, reaching 86.4 USD per ton. In December of 2019, the import price reached 75 USD per ton, down by 3.6 per cent from the previous month and down by 26.8 per cent compared to the same month in 2018.

The largest volume of coal imported to Vietnam originated from the Australian market, up strongly by 157.2 per cent in volume and 84.2 per cent in value compared to 2018, reaching 15.71 million tons, equivalent to 1.57 million USD, accounting for 35.8 per cent of the total volume and 41.3 per cent of the country's total coal imports. The price of coal imported from this market decreased by 20.3 per cent, reaching 56.4 USD per ton.

It was followed by the Indonesian market with 15.41 million tons, worth of 868.63 million USD, accounting for 35.2 per cent of the total volume and accounting for 22.9 per cent of the country's total coal import value. In comparison with the year 2018, the imports of coal from Australia increased by 38 per cent in volume and 10 per cent in value. The average import price increased by 0.8 per cent, reaching 102.4 USD per ton.

Coal imported from the Russian market to Vietnam also increased sharply by  151.2 per cent in volume and 117.4 per cent in value over 2018, with 7.15 million tons, equivalent to 633.82 million USD, accounting for over 16 per cent of the country's total coal import volume and value. The coal import price from this market decreased by 13.5 per cent to 88.6 USD per ton.

Coal imported from China decreased by 10.7 per cent in volume and decreased by 22.5 per cent in value, the import price decreased by 13.2 per cent, reaching 854,835 tons, equivalent to 241.64 million USD, priced at 282.7 USD per ton

The imports of coal from Malaysia market decreased 95.3 per cent in volume and by 93.3 per cent in value, and the import price increased by 41.5 per cent, reaching 13,135 tons, equivalent to 1.63 million USD, at 81 USD per ton.

Particularly, coal imported from Japanese chest meat is particularly noticeable due to the very small import of 175,351 tons, equivalent to 45.81 million USD, but compared to 2018, it increased sharply by 411.9 per cent in volume and up by 288.9 per cent in value.
