Imports of animal feed and materials in 2019 fell

AsemconnectVietnam - Vietnam imported 296 million USD worth of animal feed and materials in December of 2019, increased by 27.22 per cent over the previous month but decreased by 20.49 per cent in value over the same month of the previous year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

In December, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached 140 million USD, increased sharply by 87.98 per cent compared with the previous month and by 6.47 per cent over the same month of 2018. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in 2019 to nearly 1.5 billion USD, accounted for 40.3 per cent of the total market share.

It was followed by the U.S with over 39 million USD in December, down by 32.49 per cent month – on – month and down by 30.53 per cent over the same month of 2018. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in 2019 to over 628 million USD, down by 7.84 per cent year – on – year.
Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from China reached over 16 million USD in December, up by 31.9 per cent month – on – month but down by 10.38 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from China in 2019 reached over 181 million USD, decreased by 19.64 per cent year – on – year. 

In 2019, Vietnam spent over 3.7 billion USD on importing animal feed and materials, down by 5.1 per cent over the year of 2018.
In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Canada reached 49.2 million USD, increased sharply by 141.34 per cent; from Australia - 24 million USD, up by 20.71 per cent; from Argentina – nearly 1.5 billion USD, up by 17.23 per cent; and from Thailand – over 109 million USD, up by 9.75 per cent year – on – year.

Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 133,000 tons worth of 34 million USD in December and over 2.7 million tons worth of over 726 million USD in 2019, decreased by 43.15 per cent in quantity and by 38.49 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.
The leading wheat import markets in 2019 were Australia with the market share of 33 per cent; Russia – 30 per cent; Canada – 14 per cent; the U.S – 8 per cent; and Brazil – 3 per cent.
In 2019, the imports of wheat from Russia decreased by 68.03 per cent in quantity and 67.09 per cent in value year – on - year, while the imports from the U.S decreased by 30.05 per cent in quantity and 9.26 per cent in value. Meanwhile, the imports from Canada increased by 15.19 per cent in quantity and 16.54 per cent in value compared with 2018; and the imports from Brazil increased by 9.17 per cent in quantity and 38.81 per cent in value over 2018.  
Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 177,000 tons worth of over 73 million USD in December and over 1.7 million tons worth of 681 million USD in 2019, decreased by 6.49 per cent in quantity and by 11.96 per cent in value compared with 2018.
 
Corn: The imports of corn reached over 995,000 tons worth of 198 million USD in December and over 11 million tons worth of over 2.3 billion USD in 2019, increased by 13.67 per cent in quantity and 10.35 per cent in value compared with 2018.
Argentina and Brazil were the leading corn import markets of Vietnam in the first 10 months of this year with 62 per cent and 36 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
