Main seafood import markets of Vietnam in first ten months

AsemconnectVietnam - According to the preliminary statistics of the General Department of Customs, Vietnam’s seafood imports in the first 10 months of 2019 increased slightly by 3.8 per cent in turnover over the same period last year, reaching over 1.46 billion USD.

In October 2019 alone, it increased by 9.5 per cent compared to September of 2019 but decreased by 3.8 per cent compared to October of 2018, reaching 143.09 million USD. The major markets supplying seafood to Vietnam include: Norway, India, Southeast Asia, China and Japan; in which imports from Norway reached 173.91 million USD, up by 20.6 per cent over the same period of 2018, accounting for 11.9 per cent of the country's total seafood import turnover. In October of 2019 alone, the imports from Norway increased by 13.7 per cent compared to September of 2019, reaching 15 million USD, and up by 8.5 per cent compared to October of 2018.

Imported seafood from Indian market dropped sharply by 44.7 per cent compared to the same period last year, reaching 163.91 million USD, accounting for 11.2 per cent of total seafood import turnover of the whole country. In particular, in October of 2019, it increased by 14.2 per cent compared to September of 2019, but dropped sharply by 39.5 per cent compared to October of 2018, reaching 15.29 million USD.

Seafood imported from Southeast Asia market in the first 10 months increased sharply by 30.6 per cent over the same period last year, reaching 160.59 million USD, accounting for 11 per cent of the total seafood import turnover of the whole country. In October alone, the imports of seafood decreased by 11.4 per cent compared to September of 2019 but increased slightly by 4.3 per cent compared to October of 2018, reaching 16.34 million USD.

Seafood imports from China market in the first 10 months reached 113.33 million USD, up by 16.4 per cent as compared to the same period of 2018; while the imports from Japan increased by 23.5 per cent, reaching 110.19 million USD; and the imports from Indonesia increased by 19.5 per cent, reaching 92.23 million USD.
In the first 10 months of 2019, the seafood imports from most markets increased in turnover over the same period of 2018; in which, there was a strong increase in markets like: the Philippines - increased by 116.9 per cent, reaching 19.95 million USD; the US - increased by 55.9 per cent to reach 76.99 million USD; Thailand - increased by 45.2 per cent, reaching 24.63 million USD.
However, there were a few markets where seafood import turnover decreased compared to the same period last year: Chile - decreased by 2.5 per cent, reaching 50.81 million USD; Myanmar - decreased by 2.2 per cent, reaching 2.65 million USD; Taiwan - decreased by 1.3 per cent, reaching 89.47 million USD; South Korea - decreased by 0.3 per cent to reach 62.9 million USD.
