In October, Vietnam’s imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina reached 142 million USD, increased by 18.11 per cent compared with the previous month and by 18.13 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from Argentina in the first 10 months of this year to over 1.2 billion USD, accounted for 40.7 per cent of the total market share.

It was followed by the U.S with over 59 million USD in October, up by 77.699 per cent month – on – month and down by 8.04 per cent over the same month of last year. The figure brought the country’s total imports of animal feed and materials from the U.S in the first 10 months of this year to over 510 million USD, down by 9.9 per cent year – on – year.

 

Meanwhile, the imports animal feed and materials from Brazil reached over 38 million USD in October, up by 382.53 per cent month – on – month and by 15.28 per cent year – on – year. The total imports of animal feed and materials from Brazil in the first 10 months of this year reached over 201 million USD, decreased by 52.08 per cent year – on – year. 

In the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam spent over 3.1 billion USD on importing animal feed and materials, down by 1.93 per cent over the same period last year.

In the period, the country’s imports of animal feed and materials from Canada reached 43.4 million USD, increased sharply by 147.35 per cent; from Australia 20.3 million USD, up by 57.43 per cent; from Argentina – over 1.2 billion USD, up by 27.55 per cent; and from Thailand – over 93.5 million, up by 8.17 per cent year – on – year. 

Vietnam also imported wheat, corn, soybean; oil and grease as materials for producing animal feed and materials in the first 10 months of this year.

 

Wheat: Vietnam’s imports of wheat were estimated at 489,000 tons worth of 118 million USD in October and over 2.3 million tons worth of over 612 million USD in the first 10 months of this year, decreased by 49.58 per cent in quantity and by 44.56 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.

The leading wheat import markets in the first 10 months of this year were Australia with the market share of 37 per cent; Russia – 26 per cent; Canada – 12 per cent; the U.S – 10 per cent; and Brazil – 4 per cent.

In the first 10 months of this year, the imports of wheat from Russia decreased by 75.6 per cent in quantity and 74.76 per cent in value year – on - year, while the imports from Australia decreased by 16.67 per cent in quantity and 13.24 per cent in value; and from Canada – down by 12.48 per cent in quantity and 10.45 per cent in value. Meanwhile, the imports from Canada decreased by 12.48 per cent in quantity and 10.45 per cent in value compared with the same period last year. However, the imports from the U.S increased sharply by 22.52 per cent in quantity and 38.81 per cent in value over the same period last year.  

Soybean: Vietnam’s imports of soybean reached 113,000 tons worth of over 45 million USD in October and over 1.4 million tons worth of 563 million USD in the first 10 months of this year, decreased by 2.25 per cent in quantity and by 10.04 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.

Corn: The imports of corn reached over 1.3 million tons worth of 256 million USD in October and over 9.2 million tons worth of over 1.8 billion USD in the first 10 months of this year, increased by 12.94 per cent in quantity and 10.17 per cent in value compared with the same period of 2018.

Argentina and Brazil were the leading corn import markets of Vietnam in the first 10 months of this year with 65 per cent and 33 per cent of the total market share, respectively.
