Specifically, from the beginning of the year to the end of September 2019, the export turnover of phones of all types and components reached 38.8 billion USD, up by 5.7 per cent over the same period in 2018, although in September of 2019 the exports of this item decreased slightly by 8.1 per cent compared to August of 2019 to 5.4 billion USD.

Thus, the exports of phones and components contributed 19.94 per cent to the country's export turnover, and became the item with the highest turnover in the first 9 months of this year.

Vietnam's phones and components were mainly exported to the EU market, which accounted for 24.08 per cent of the proportion, but compared to the same period this time, the turnover decreased slightly by 6.58 per cent to 9.34 billion USD. In September of 2019 alone, the exports of phones and components to the EU market fell by 8.52 per cent compared to August of 2019 and by 15.89 per cent compared to September of 2018 to 1.04 billion USD.

The trade conflict between United States and China - the two largest economic powers in the world, caused significant impacts on global trade flows and Vietnam was no exception.

According to the data from the General Department of Customs, the country’s exports of goods to the US market in the first 9 months of 2019 reached over 7 billion USD, up by 68.88 per cent over the same period last year. In September of 2019 alone, the exports of goods to the US reached 854.03 million USD, down by 33.42 per cent compared to August of 2019 but up by 37.94 per cent compared to September of 2018.

The exports of goods to China reached 4.66 billion USD, down by 19.23 per cent compared to the same period of 2018. Particularly in September of 2019, the country’s exports of goods to the U.S reached 1.5 billion USD, up by 39.33 per cent compared to August of 2019 but down by 6.2 per cent compared to September of 2018.

In addition to the above mentioned main markets, Vietnam also exported to other markets such as UAE, South Korea, Thailand, Germany, UK, etc.

In general, in the first 9 months of 2019, the exports of phones of all kinds and components to markets declined, the number of these markets accounted for 69.56 per cent, of which the exports to Cambodia fell by 98.87 per cent compared to the same period of 2018, to 205,000 USD; the exports to Hong Kong (China) fell sharply by 42.77 per cent to 848.39 million USD. Particularly in September of 2019, the country’s exports to Hongkong (China) decreased by 14.57 per cent compared to August of 2019 and by 28.31 per cent compared to September of 2018 to 118.25 million USD.

In the opposite direction, the markets that saw growth in export turnover accounted for only 30.43 per cent; of which the exports to Mexico market increased significantly, although only reached 393.35 million USD but increased by 5.5 times (corresponding to 449, 57 per cent) compared to the first 9 months of 2018. Particularly, in September of 2019, the country’s exports to Mexico reached 70.41 million USD, down by 22.01 per cent compared to August of 2019 but up by 7.7 times (corresponding to 667.64 per cent) compared to September of 2018.
