Vietnam’s trade exchange with China, South Korea and Japan saw growth

AsemconnectVietnam - The bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and the leading trade parners in Asia such as China, South Korea and Japan saw growth in the first six months of this year.

However, the country still got huge deficit in trade exchange with those countries, especially with China.
Trade exchange with China hit nearly US$ 47 billion, deficit hit $13.57 billion

China is still the biggest trade partner of Vietnam.
The bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and China reached US$46.81 billion in the first six months of this year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Of the figure, Vietnam exported $16.62 billion worth of goods to, and imported $30.19 billion worth of goods from China, increased by 27.7 per cent and 12.5 per cent, respectively over the same period last year. So in the first six months of this year, Vietnam got $13.57 billion of deficit in trade exchange with China.

Machines, equipment and spare parts were leading the list of items imported from China in the period with the import value of over $5.5 billion, accounted for 18.2 per cent of the total and increased slightly by 3.3 per cent year – on – year. It was followed by telephones and components with $ 3.63 billion, up by 11.8 per cent; and then fabrics - $3.43 billion, up by 18.2 per cent; computers, electronics and components - $3.3 billion, up by 2.1 per cent; iron and steel - $2.32 billion, up by 4.1 per cent; textile, garment, leather and footwear materials - $1.06 billion, up by 3.1 per cent.

In the first six months of this year, Vietnam’s imports of cameras, camcorders and components from China increased sharply by 155.2 per cent to $387.98 million; while the imports of petroleum increased by 104.9 per cent to $534.34 million.

Besides, the imports of metal products from China also increased by 89.2 per cent to $316.08 million; oil and grease – up by 85.8 per cent to $9.98 million; coal – up by 80.6 per cent to $155.47 million; other oil products – up by 52.8 per cent to $41.68 million; precious stones, metals and products – up by 50 per cent to $14 million.

However, the imports of CBU autos from China decreased sharply by 88.4 per cent in quantity and 91.7 per cent in value to 402 units worth of $10.97 million; while the imports of pharmaceuticals; cotton; rubber and fertilizer also fell sharply by 42.9 per cent; 34.9 per cent; 29.2 per cent and 22.9 per cent, respectively year – on – year.

Trade deficit with South Korea reached US$22.63 billion in six months
Vietnam – South Korea trade exchange hit US$31.35 billion in the first six months of this year, increased slightly by 7.4 per cent over the same period of 2017, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Of the figure, the country imported $22.63 billion worth of goods from; and exported $8.72 billion worth of goods to South Korea.
So in the first six months of this year, Vietnam got $13.91 billion of deficit in trade exchange with South Korea, down by 13.4 per cent year – on – year.

Computers, electronics and components were the leading item imported by Vietnam from South Korea in the first six months of this year with the import value of $8.49 billion, accounted for 37.5 per cent of the total imports from South Korea and increased by 40.5 per cent compared with the same period last year.
Machines, equipment and spare parts ranked second with $3.11 billion, down by 49.7 per cent; and then telephones and components – over $ 2 billion, down by 12.7 per cent; petroleum - $ 1.32 billion, up by 51 per cent; and fabrics - $1.09 billion, up by 10.5 per cent.

In the first six months of this year, the country’s imports of almost all items from South Korea saw growth. The imports of gas increased sharply by 211.8 per cent to $3.17 million; cameras, camcorders and components – up by 145.5 per cent to $260.3 million; fruits and vegetables – up by 106.6 per cent to $12.17 million; cotton – up by 95 per cent to $3.37 million; seafood – up by 90.7 per cent to $41.56 million; ores and minerals – up by 86 per cent to $7.89 million.

However, the imports of CBU cars were down by 92.6 per cent to $6.92 million; means of transport and spare parts – down by 47.8 per cent to $18.58 million; fertilizer – down by 36.8 per cent to $26.66 million.

Vietnam – Japan trade exchange increased by over 12 per cent
The bilateral trade exchange between Vietnam and Japan reached US$17.76 billion in the first six months of this year, increased by 12.3 per cent over the same period last year, showed the statistics figures of the General Department of Customs.

Of the figure, Vietnam exported $8.87 billion worth of goods to and imported $8.88 billion worth of goods from Japan, increased by 10.5 per cent and 14.2 per cent, respectively year – on – year.
Textiles and garments were leading the list of items exported by the country to Japan in the first six months of this year with the export turnover of $1.7 billion, up by 2.83 per cent over the same period last year and accounted for 19.1 per cent of the total. It was followed by means of transport and spare parts with $1.17 billion, up by 15.1 per cent; and then machines, equipment and spare parts with $882.6 million, up by 6 per cent; seafood - $615.07 million, up by over 4.7 per cent; wood and furniture - $528.07 million, up by 5 per cent year – on – year.

In the first six months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of iron and steel to Japan rocketed by 350.8per cent to $33.08 million; plastics – up by 244.2 per cent to $17.84 million; ores and minerals – up by 40.5 per cent to $6.78 million; cashew nuts – up by 34.8 per cent to $16.55 million.

However, the exports of crude oil to Japan decreased by 43.6 per cent to $124.58 million; while the exports of pepper, cassava, rubber and fertilizer also decreased by 27 per cent; 22.8 per cent; 22.1 per cent and 10.1 per cent, respectively year – on –year.
